Well, the good news is the reds lineup can't play any worse.

i can't believe we just had a no-hitter in the playoffs. personally (and sorry red fans), i don't see philly losing more than 2 games in any series...that staff is just too good

I guess the most frustrating part is all I've heard from ESPN is how the Reds don't belong, no one gave them a chance against the Phillies, the series is already over, etc...And the Reds played exactly up to that expectation. Obviously Halladay is an ace, but it's not like we lost a close, hard-fought game. No one showed any hope against him.

I wonder what the offensive(or non-offensive) record is for most consecutive innings without getting a hit. I'm sure the Reds have set the record already for the most consecutive innings to start a playoff series without a hit.

I guess it didn't matter who the Reds started! Even if Wood starts and throws another near perfect game shutout thru 9, the Reds still don't win in regulation. And Wood hits the hardest ball for the Reds, an opposite field shot that Werth flagged down. Good jobs by Wood, Ondrusek(pitching only), and Bray getting their feet wet in post season play.

Even though this game seemed like no contest, I'd like to see how it would have played out if it was replayed from a point of not allowing the SB in the first inning and if Cabrera and Phillips were able to get the force out at 2B with two outs in the 2nd inning.

Should've been 1-0 or 2-0 at the worst.

Cabrera: "He and the umpire pitched a no-hitter. He gave him every pitch. ... we had no chance."
Really??

Other than the final strike to Rolen during the one at bat early....Halladay didn't get any other strike 3 calls IMO.

His control was pinpoint to the max. He threw so many unbelievable pitches that just nipped the bottom corner and other corners.

I'll answer that. The Phillies would've taken their at bats more seriously and played with a sense of urgency instead of just setting it cruise control. They knew this game was over in the 3rd inning by the way Doc was throwing. It would've ended 4 or 5 to nothing regardless. If it's only 1-0 after 3, then thye end up getting a couple more later to secure the win.

If Cabrera thinks that, he didn't watch every pitch until it crossed the plate, and commented without bias. He is correct that they had no chance, but it wasn't because of the umpire! Electronic balls and strikes would have been more numerous that what Hirschbeck called. In fact on the walk to Bruce, electronically called balls and strikes likely would have called one of the balls a strike, so you could say the ump cost Halladay a perfect game just as much as a call at 1B cost another perfect game this season.

Typical Ohio sports team way in over their head. Before they realize they're on the big stage, it's all but over.

Dusty made a good call on Volquez....Phillies swung at zero bad pitches....Reds swung at 25.

You must be patient in the playoffs.....every other offense will be....Dusty's team will not. So far so good.

Yes, the batters weren't counting on all those unconventional breaks back into the zone. Like I heard a couple commentators say, Brantley and someone else, maybe Eckersley or Ripkin, it was like Maddux, but 3-5 mph faster.

Agreed. I don't care how great of stuff he has, there's a reason it's only been done once before this. SMH.

That being said, series is far from over.

He is conveniently only a Penguins and Steelers fan.
