In Ohio high school basketball, do you think this would be legal? The "play" starts around the 0:40 mark.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJPcPvbuyxI

For those too lazy to watch the video, the offensive players all huddle around each other right next to the sideline with 2 of them handing the ball back and forth to each other and the other 3 "protecting" them so the other team can't get close to get the ball away. I'm trying to think of any type of violation but can't off the top of my head.

I don't think it's illegal. I didn't have my volume on to see why the play ended. The team that did it was getting pounded though, so they might have been doing that to use up time to avoid even more embarassment.

It is a legal play. The ref blew it dead because he pointed at the kid who was standing on the out of bounds line, and the ball touched him when they were handing it back in forth to each other.

High School basketball needs a shotclock...in every state. Stall ball is a cowardly way to play a game and i HATEEEE when i go to tournament games and usually some rural school will do this when matched up with a city league team. Just play the game and stop bein scared of competition

Teams that play like that against "city league teams" more than likely play that way their entire season. It has nothing to do with the team they are playing being from the "city".

In junior high, we played stall ball (4 corners) against the better city league teams, but actually man'd up against the other teams. But we sucked.

I've seen the latter. I reffed the Toledo Rogers/Bowsher tourney game last year. I'd rather see stall ball. It was ugly and out of control (from a fundamental standpoint).
