My guess is Salem will try to control the clock to keep Campbell's offense off the field, although they may throw the ball a little too, just to keep Campbell's defense honest. I am not sure Salem has faced a team with as much speed as Campbell Memorial, although Liberty does have some speed. Campbell can put 4 or 5 kids on the field on offense that are all capable of making a big play. The kicking game may also be an important factor in the outcome of this game. Both teams have good kickers. I do expect this to be a very interesting game. I am really looking forward to it.

I plan on getting to the stadium early. But can any of you Salem huddlers tell me the best places to park?

If you don't mind walking, there is a free municipal parking lot about two short blocks west of the stadium on Pershing (the stadium is also on Pershing). If you are going to be driving south on Route 62 into Salem, when you are downtown you will cross over State St. and the next cross street is Pershing. Take a right onto Pershing and the parking lot will be about a block down on your left. I'd say that is the easiest place to park if you don't mind walking and want to avoid the mess near Reilly Stadium. There is also parking in a small grass lot behind the stadium and lots at the library and St. Paul's church which are directly across the street from the stadium, but they fill up fast and early with locals. Make sure you buy advance tickets to avoid the lines at the ticket booth in case you get there late.

Second Campbell's team has all been together from the beginning of the rebuild 4 years ago. And if you think Campbell is this well same team as last year we would have lost to south range. who is 4-1 and has a player by the name of Jake Arsuffi and nobody has found a way to keep him from the endzone. they got 21 on us. but we got 42. And that was with skevo going down early second qt. And for your information a barn burner means a very close and good game. Not tearing Salem a new rear. Personally i don't know who will win and that's the best part about it. That's why i said i would not take any bet. Salem is almost the same carbon copy as last years team that laid Campbell out. And i would be the first to admit that i don't think Campbell can beat Salem. But this Campbell team is unpredictable. And yes Campbell is very capable of beating Salem depends on what Campbell team shows up. I wonder if this will get game of the week .

To add to this:

The Library usually has a rent-a-cop there so that people who would rather read books on Friday Night have somewhere to park, don't park there.
St. Paul and Manhattan Cleaners are fundraiser lots for the Boy Scouts and Key Club, respectively, those will cost $2-3.

I didn't know that they charged to park at St Paul. I guess that's because I usually walk or park on the Vine Street hill. Easy in, easy out! You can park at the library after 6pm when the library closes if you want to be daring and try to park there. The rent-a-cops do get a little chippy if you are not there on official library business, lol!!

I was checking out the latest AP poll and then compared it to the JJhuddle Power Poll. I know that those Polls don't mean crap but how does a team that is undefeated, has out scored its last two opponents 49-7 drop in the polls? Campbell after beating South Range was as high as 5th in the DIV poll on JJHuddle. Now after Three straight wins we drop to 10th! Talk about disrespect!

I hope that the kids and coaches read this because if that doesn't make you mad then nothing will!

Now back to the game,

Salem is a fine opponent and will be very hard to beat on their home field. We must eliminate the turnovers on Friday night! We must gang tackle on every play and not fall asleep with play action if Salem starts to run the ball effectively against us. We need to convert on third downs and WE NEED TO CREATE TURNOVERS! Penalties haven't killed us this year but we can't have any of those either.

This is an important game for both teams for playoff points. Campbell is 4th in their region and Salem is 9th. The winner will be in a great position for a post season berth and possibly a home playoff game. I just hope that the game lives up to the hype!

The Q.........not here my man. We are the biggest joke you will ever see when it comes to fan base. The Labrae youth coach came over to me after the game against them last week and said "dude.....as you can see on our side we are not exactly doing all that great this year.....but what in the hell is wrong with your community!!".

And he is right. We were able to fill half the homeside for the first time ever since the new stadium last week. And the only reason why was because we had homecoming and Hall of Fame week the same night. If we would have had seniors night as well we may have grabbed another 200 people as well.

We do not travel....you will not see more than 400 people in Salem. This town has not supported this football program since 1999. Not even last years playoff team. And when we are there....it's like sitting in a library. As you can tell, I could not resist the rabid fans comment without letting you know how much that does not describe our joke of a fan base. You will be lucky to see 50 students there at this game. Trust me.

Wow, that surprises me. I have a ton of relatives in the Y-town area (my Mom was from a large family in Y-town) and a few also lived in Struthers and Campbell and played sports at those schools. I guess I remember the glory days of football and the rivalry between those two communities. Hopefully Campbell's recent success will start pulling in more fans.

I hear ya 'Pride. I have been to Campbell when there wasn't even two people on your side for every kid on the field, and that includes players, band and cheerleaders. With such a fabulous stadium it is sad to see. Hope it turns for you ... someday.

I don't know about the 42 to 20 score. but we have played south range and they are not nothing to sneeze at. But if Salem has a problem with containing speed they are in trouble. but i watched the Hubbard Salem game last night on my valley sports. There solid even though they came up with a loss. Toothman is the one gonna either win it for Salem or Lester Hughes win it for Campbell. its going to be a quarterback game.

QuakerOats, we'll eat anywhere. Now, Campbell Memorial's stadium has a seating capacity of around 7,200, with 4,500 of those seats on the home side of the stadium. Add the standing room area (there are many who choose to stand behind the "wall" on the home side, which is now under cover for the most part when it rains because the upper deck seats overhang it, amounts to another 500 or more spaces to watch a game from. So that's nearly 5,000 spaces to watch the game from if one is a Campbell fan. As Pride said, we have not been able to fill half of that home side since the stadium was renovated back in '04 or '05. 4,500 home side seats is a lot of seats to fill in a small community whose population had declined considerably over the past 20 or so years. Back in the old glory days of Campbell football, before any renovations took place, it was not unusual to see at least 5,000 - 6,000 fans at a game. And I really see no reason why it cannot happen again despite the dwindling population of the city. There are many alumni who forgot their roots. Hence, they don't come to games. Many are former football players. And that's a shame. We've had some really good weather this season. The same thing happens during basketball season. Coach Danilov has had some really good teams since he returned to coaching basketball at Campbell. And we seldom have more than 200 fans in attendance at a home game. But come tournament time down in Salem, and I am sure many of you Quaker supporters know this.......... the Campbell fans seem to come out of the woodwork. If this Campbell football team continues to win, I would really like to see that stadium filled close to capacity at least on the home side.

One thing I really do not like are the 7 o'clock kickoff times. I am sure that is done so the media can get all of their highlights of the games back to their studios in time for the 11 PM hour sports report. The problem is there are many fans who don't get home from work until an hour before kickoff. And if one has to travel some miles to get to the game, they sometimes skip it. I think that has put a crimp in attendance at games all over the valley, at least for the many schools that start their games at 7. Campbell unfortunately is the only Mahoning County school in the AAC-Blue. So many fans have to travel to Trumbull County to watch a Campbell away game. And when Campbell has a home game, those fans who must travel from Trumbull County to Campbell have to really put a move on to get to the game on time, depending on what time they get home from work or wherever else they have to be during the day. And that stinks.

I travel every game so there is no home game for me lol. But i wanted to know where i can get some old football footage from say 85 on up to around 93! I had a video of the 89 team i bought back in high school. I wanted to put together a YouTube video of campbell's older teams . But i lost that tape back in 2002 after my divorce. I still think the ex burned it cause shes from struthers. LOL So if you can tell me if i can get my hands on some or does the High School sell it. I heard someone say a time back that they converted a lot of it to DVD. I hate when i go on YouTube and cant find anything on Campbell's football team. Thanks in advance.

If I knew who you were I might be able to save you and your brother a seat. Mr. Soroka has dvds for sale of most of the seasons from 1985 to current. Call the media department at the high school or leave Mr. Soroka an email. This is Mr. Soroka, not Mr. Sikora. Soroka was an assistant under Coach Rozum.

I could easily see this game being real high scoring. Both teams have exceptional talent at the skill positions. I think it will come down to whichever defense can step up and make a stop when it counts. Salem's defense has been shaky all year, but may have found some things in the second half against Liberty. Looking forward seein this one Friday night.

CardsFlyinHigh you could be right. But we have not scored big since weeks one and two. we lost a very valuable piece to the offense. Skevo was a speed demon and that putting it lightly. we shall see.

Disappointing to hear about Campbell's football crowds, especially with such a beautiful stadium. And surprising, because as Big Dean mentioned, we can always count on a large, boisterous Campbell crowd come basketball tourney time.

I worked with a Jim Bowers in the seamless pipe mill in the mid 1970's and early 1980's before the mill was shut down. He was a reeler operator. I was a first piercer operator. My guess is your brother Jim might be the same person I worked with in the mill. My guess is he is in his late 40's by now. I thought the 27 points the Red Devils put up on a good LaBrae defense last week might have put the offense back on track. Campbell will have to limit, if not eliminate turnovers down at Salem. Putting the ball on the ground has been an issue for Campbell all season long. They can't afford to turn the ball over against a solid team like Salem. I am fairly certain that Salem has not faced a team with as much speed and skill as Campbell this season. Liberty has some speed. But they do not have the weapons on offense that Campbell has. Campbell has had trouble shutting down the good backs until last week, when the Campbell defense limited LaBrae's Szorday to 58 yards rushing. Hopefully, the success at stopping the run will continue on Friday night. And Toothman, although he is the Salem QB, is just like a running back. Last year he ran all over the Red Devils because Campbell had trouble tackling. And he also had some good receivers, one of them All-Ohio, to compliment his running. That was a beat down last year. But Campbell was a young team that did not have much size. This season I have heard that Salem does not have quite the receiving corps they had last season. That does not mean that Salem will not try to throw the ball on Campbell.
This season, both teams are big up front. I say this game may be won or lost in the trenches. Salem has a two way lineman named Mike King, #55, listed at 6-3, 280 on the roster, who is an absolute beast, as physical as any lineman Campbell will face this season. I believe he is the nephew of former Campbell linebacker Tim King, who was a force for the Red Devils in 1989 and 1990. Tim King was a wrecking machine. Campbell's Sikora really stepped up his game vs. LaBrae last week. He was all over the field, reminding me of some of the great Campbell linebackers from years back, i.e. the Hazimahalis brothers, the Ginnis brothers, and Tim King. Sikora and Benedis both are big, tough, solid linebackers. Campbell's defensive linemen are going to have to play well so Sikora and Benedis can run Toothman down. Coach Sikora has an arsenal of offensive weapons, some he hasn't used much this season. Maybe this is the week he turns the others loose. Campbell has the ability to put as many as five athletes on the field at any given time, all of whom can make a big play. It will be interesting to see how Salem counters that. I can't wait until Friday. This is fun again.
