I have acid-reflux so I have a prescription for generic Prilosec that I take twice a day. I get 60 caps every month and take them twice a day. Normally, when I pick up my prescription it is $5.
This past July I turned 22 and was dropped from my dad's insurance plan. I called in my prescription to have it re-upped last night and received a call from them today saying it was ready to pick up. I tell the lady on the phone that I'm no longer covered on the insurance plan they have, and that I would probably just end up paying the full price for it. She says that's fine, and that it would be....wait for it...
$139.99

So you're upset that your medicine is more expensive when you don't have insurance?
Seems like this has nothing to do with CVS.

No, I'm more upset that I can buy the SAME THING over the counter for way less. and I agree it's probably not CVS, but I believe Wal-Mart will fill it for $5.

I guarantee you Wal Mart will not fill it for $5 either. I know a little bit about acid reflux and the need for prescriptions and the insurance companies. After much research, information, etc., I have learned that the insurance industry has a panel of doctors that review such meds and they have determined that acid reflux meds are considered "not necessary" as THEY FEEL that a "lifestyle change" in a patient's habits (eating right, not drinking, not smoking, less stress, etc., etc.) will fix the problem. I am not trying to preach to you, but this is the fact of life with these types of meds like it or not and what this doctor's panel has decided for us as individuals.
P.S. You ought to thank your lucky stars that Prilosec works for you ---- you would faint at the price of Nexium!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For generics? I thought they (or someone else) filled generics for $5.00...
Oh well. I bought some OTC stuff on eBay for cheap.
And yes, I've heard about nexium being outrageous.
As for the "it's your lifestyle" bullshit, stomach issues in my family go back a few generations, although my diet doesn't help much. I've tried changing my diet but it simply doesn't work. Stupid stomach, who needs 'em.

There are a number of stores that will fill specific generic prescriptions for $5-10. A few (I know Meijer is one) will fill certain ones for free.

Yes. Somewhere in my office I have a list, though it's probably about a year old. I don't know how many still participate. Most stores will have it on their website.
