TOLEDO — Fostoria High School found inself in trouble early and it never recovered Friday night in taking a 69-0 thumping from Toledo Whitmer in Friday night’s non-league game at Whitmer Memorial Stadium.
Panthers quarterback Alex Palicki completed 10 of 15 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns as Whitmer improved to 2-1 on the season. Fostoria fell to 0-3 and has yet to score in the 2010 season.
“Let’s not talk in hypotheticals,” FHS coach Beau Carmon said. “They are a better football team than we are. They have more talent on their team. There’s no hiding it, no denying it. For us to win tonight, we knew we had to play as perfect as possible and it wasn’t there.”
Fostoria stopped Whitmer on its first drive, but the Panthers weren’t to be denied on their second or many more drives afterward.
Seven minutes into the first quarter, Paliki pitched the ball out to the left to running back Jody Webb, who broke a tackle near the sideline, darted back to the middle and ran all the way to the end zone thanks to his blockers. Jared Kenczewicz’s PAT kick made it 7-0.
Four plays later, Alonzo Lucas returned a Redmen punt 58 yards for a touchdown. Jared Kenczewicz’s kick made it a 14-0 ballgame with 3:03 left in the opening period.
Whitmer added to Fostoria’s misery by scoring four times in the second quarter.
Paliki found Nate Miranda over the middle and behind the Redmen secondary with a 48-yard touchdown pass 27 seconds into the period.
Five minutes later, Whitmer’s Joe McNabb blocked a Redmen punt on the 7 yard line, picked up the ball at the 2 and hopped past the goal line.
Paliki found receiver Nigel Hayes with 20- and 30-yard passes in the last 5 minutes of the period. Kenczewicz kicked extra points on all four of the scores to give Whitmer a 42-0 lead at halftime.
“When we have guys out of position because they’re not mentally there, then that’s tough,” Carmon said. “We didn’t put ourselves in a position to play with Whitmer tonight. We didn’t do ourselves any favors.”
Sophomore Fostoria quarterback Adonis Cousin was 8 for 19 passing for 59 yards and three interceptions.
