This Boise State team could possibly finish in the top 4 of the Big Ten, but year in and year out they would be a bottom tier team, because the lack of undefeated seasons would hurt their recruiting and their down years wouldn't be 11-1 seasons, they would be 4-8 seasons.

Teams like Wisconsin, Michigan State, Penn State, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State all have enough weapons to at least be in a back-and-forth game with Boise. Some would beat them.
Playing any of these back to back to back to back is something the likes of Boise State have yet to do...ever.

Like I said, it's only been one week. It's hard to say how good the Big Ten teams are but I think the conference as a whole has more quality teams this year than in some of the past few years. Time will tell.

I agree, four very solid contenders, then consider Pat Fitzgerald's progress at NW...jury still out on UM imo...lot more balance this season.

I disagree. I would say they are consistently better than Indiana, Michigan State, Purdue, Minnesota, Illinois, and Northwestern, and assuming that at least one remaining team is having a down year (Michigan, again), that puts them finishing fifth, so I could see them having some years better than that, some years worse.

I would say Boise State is on the same level as Wisconsin.

Damn if the Va Tech player gets more of that...it could totally be a different ball game.

I think Fitzgerald is a top 15 coach in the country. He would have great success at a bigger school and will only get better with time

I really like Fitz, though I think his passion is with the Wildcats and might not translate as well elsewhere, but damn he has had them in some ballgames they should never have been in.

and redfalcon...Boise St. couldn't hold Wisconsin's jock over the last 20 years...last 5?...sure.

Here is my point you can't compare Boise State, TCU to any team in BCS conference. Yes they play 1 or 2 big teams every year. But they do not play week in and week out a good schedule at all. Until Boise State gets invited to a big boy conference I don't think they should be able to play in the BCS Title game.

true that as well, very valid point. you gotta wonder if that program will keep building or if they will sputter out. You gotta hope they keep building. I think a consistent contender for 3rd in the battle for 2nd 3/10 years and in the battle for first 1/10 years would be a great goal for that program

Once again, Boise State playing well in the only tough game they have all year. Would they play this well if they had 3 of their next 4 against the B10 or SEC?

Count me out of the Boise State circle jerk.

There is really mo way to know how Boise State would do in a major conference. Look at the physicality in this game tonight, and see if they could do that playing Ohio State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan in consecutive weeks. And every one of those games would be just as physical. If they get a couple guys hurt, how good are the backups? We don't know now because the starters are out at halftime against New Mexico State and Utah State and company.

I agree.. I have never thought Boise State should be able to contend for the National Title, or any Non BCS Conf.

Boise had a chance to step on their throats up 17-- but couldn't execute; now that Va. Tech is bac in the game, I think Boise is in a dangerous, dangerous position

Boise's defense dominated early, but the offense got several gifts leading to easy points. They still haven't moved the ball as effectively as Virginia Tech. If Tech can hold onto the ball and block someone on kicks, they should really win this game.

This is what I am talking about, although I think I would extend that to about 7 or 8 years. A team which goes on a one or two year run like Bowling Green and Miami of Ohio in 2003 is one thing, but Boise State has been damn good for several years now, and I would easily compare them to Wisconsin over the past 7 or 8 years.

I would agree with this. Northwestern has been a sleeper team for a while, going 8-4 or 9-3, and pretty soon money says they have a breakout year.
