They were largely overrated the entire 90s, always losing the big game to take them out of national championship contention. Outside of 2002 where they overachieved greatly, what have they done the last 33 years? Beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl last year?
Last 33 years? Had a better winning percentage than ND, had more BCS wins than Notre Dame, had a higher average final ranking and whooped on Notre Dame 3 times.
Between 69 and 01 OSU had more wins, a higher winning percentage, a pretty even final ranking (9.2 vs 9.1, if you give Notre Dame a "26" ranking for the years they finished unranked to match the number of years that OSU was ranked, they end up with a average of 10.4 ) and ranked in the final rankings more often than Notre Dame. Also, won more BCS games, and beat Notre Dame twice. OSU is more consistent than ND, more stable (4 coaches in that time vs 8 for ND)
You know why OSU fans will say things like "the last 10 years" or "the last 20 years"? Because no one gives a shit what happened in the 60's or 70's, especially when they weren't even alive during that time. What does success 30 years ago have to do with how a team is doing now? Notre Dame fans want to run around and talk smack, yet their team hasn't backed it up in YEARS. It's like the guy who brags he has the fastest car in the city, but he hasn't won a race since the 80's. Sure everyone respects what he has done in the past, but everyone also thinks he is an idiot for bragging about doing absolutely nothing.
