As I feared! Because of his age (almost 14) vet opted we put him on pain killers and not amputate the leg or put him through chemotherapy. Probably have a few months left with my old friend Buckeye.

Sad news Fab.
Always tough to have to go through things like this. My family dog had diabetes and lived to be 13 with it, but the last year was absolutely awful on all of us.

what type of dog?
i had a beagle/dalmation mix that had bone cancer. saddest time of my life, the only time i remember seeing my dad cry (i was like 3 when my G-ma and G-pa died). I got that dog on my 5th birthday and she died on my 22nd birthday. I still have the collar she wore with her dog license from 2007 on it.

So sad to hear this. But she's lucky to have you with her for whatever time she has.

Sorry to hear this Fab it's tough to watch family pets in pain they are as much apart of a family as anyone. My Golden is 6 and when I think of losing him it gets me down to say the least. Especially since my son is 4 and daughter is 16 monthes so when he goes it should be rough on all of us.

The dog I grew up with was laying on our floor and we knew he didn't have much time left. He could barely walk and we were letting him rest before we took him to the vet to have him put down. All of the animals in the house (2 cats, and our other dog) all laid next to him in the dining room.
It was so incredibly sad.

Sorry about that man.
I've had to put a few dogs down myself. Now this may sound mean but dogs/pets are here for the owners enjoyment. If/when they start having problems and vet bills pile up I usually just have them put down. Never done it prematurely or anything but for example one dog a black lab was 11 and started losing her bowels all over the place, I'd come home and poop would be spread out all over. I took her to the vet, changed the food, did everything but ended up putting her down not too long afterwards. She probably had another 2-3 years but what kind of life for me and her so I had her put down.

My Boxer's got bone cancer too, I feel your pain. She's 14 so she's got maybe a year left anyways, but it's a struggle just watching her move around sometimes. And I only see her when I venture up to Ytown from Cbus.

Losing a family pet is one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through. I feel your pain, just like many do on this thread. When I was 18 we had to put down our 16-year old dog. So tough! We have a 14-year old yellow lab right now that has had hip problems the last few years, and has slowly gotten to a point now where he's almost entirely deaf. Within the next year, probably, we're going to have to put him down. This dog is the one that was my best buddy when I was growing up as a kid through elementary school and high school. Now I might go over to my parents' house every few weekends, but he loves it when I come "home".
Best of luck to you, Fab!

My dog Brutus died in May this year. He was 14, a black and white mutt/lab mix. Smartest dog I ever had, and I've had alot of dogs.

Hate to hear this we have a irish setter right now with major arthritis we have to give him two pills a day. Hes 13 years old and I just hate seeing him like that. He loves to chase the ball but after a few throws he just takes it to the door and hes done. He still has the urge to do it though cause he will bring the ball to you when he feels like playing. Im gonna miss him when hes gone. I hope you get to spend some good quality time with Buckeye cause there aint a better friend out there.
