Thanks for that I am going to be with him, I can't just walk away from him with him seeing my back going away. I'd rather have his last memory be me and my girl giving him some love.

For our 16-year old we had to put down a while ago, I sat in the waiting room with my mother while my brother (it was his dog) and father went in with the dog. When our now-14-year old lab has to be put down, you can bet I'll be in there with him. But I am dreading the day. I really feel for you, Fab! Good luck.

Will absolutely be thinking of you and Buckeye tomorrow. I would no doubt stay with him. I had to have my cat put to sleep a few years ago but she was very old and sick and got too aggitated so the vet thought it would be best for me to leave. Leaving her like that was one of the hardest things I've had to do.

About all you can do is just tell yourself it's for the best for your dog and will stop it from suffering. Had some friends go through this a year or two ago. Short-term, it won't make things better for you as far as coping, but after the initial grief fades, you'll realize you were doing her a favor by making the pain go away.

The thing that has been the hardest after the vet visit last Friday is we thought we'd have more time not just a week and so did the vet. This has just progressed so fast it is really amazing and sad at the same time.

You're doing your dog a favor, no matter how hard the decision is. You should be thankful you get to say your goodbyes.

Fab, this was soooooo sad reading your posts. From someone that does not know you nor your dog, by those pictures, please know that a total stranger can see the love and happiness in your dog's eyes. YOU gave that gift to him!!!!

Hope you guys had a good night! Once again, sorry about today, but you already know it's for the best! Gonna be tough, that's for sure.
And yes...I would definitely be in there with him! I was with the 2 dogs I've had to have put down. Just remember, it's instant, and they won't feel a thing! The pain will be gone and no more suffering!

It was a very long sobering, emotional night. I am ready for his pain to end. Thank you all for your kind posts and thoughts! This is no doubt the toughest thing I have had to do!!

Damn....My thoughts are with you today.
My wife's childhood pet had to be put down a few months back and it really had a big effect on their family, even the ones who have moved out a few years ago. They grew up with the dog and pets can really become a part of the family.
I don't have pets, but my parents still have my childhood dog and the time his coming soon for her I'm afraid.
Good luck today.

Sad sad day here at Fab1b's. It was a long morning but the right thing was done. My friend no longer feels any pain. Our vet is very wonderful, she made us very comfortable and the process very peaceful. Buckeye was at ease. Time for some rest!

Good vets make a dramatic difference in how you feel and the pet can pick up attitudes. I'm sure your buddy was totally comfortable at the end, and seeing you and knowing you're the last person your friend saw, is comforting in itself.

Try to remember...
Pain is required to heal... Misery is optional.
This helped me deal with my Mother's passing... Sure is tough though. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
