As many in the area figured was going to happen, Chris Kubbs stepped down at Pleasant this morning as head football coach

Early word out of Pleasant is that the next head coach will be either Aaron Cook or Lane Warner

The most overrated coach in the history of high school football steps down.

That's what this thread title should read.

Why the hell did he step down?

Have we ever figured out if Kubbs coached a game in his life? Or did he just randomly choose between 12 plays that Pleasant kids had been running since their elementary days.

Did he ever win a game where he didn't have the most talent on the field? Did he ever adapt his style?

The answer to all those questions is no.

Sage does bring up some good points.

Pleasant shouldnt screw this decision up. It is really an easy one to make if they keep it within the district.

1996 State Championship game for one maybe? And that was a pretty big one.

Kubbs teams were fundamentally sound, well disciplined and they worked towards perfection. 12 plays, huh? You'd think a defense could figure out how to stop 12 plays.

As for the new coach, I've been hearing Cook's name.

http://www.marionstar.com/article/20091125/NEWS01/911250302/Pleasant-s-head-football-coach-resigns

He is going to stay on and coach baseball through this year.

The way the article sounded in today's Star it appears he is giving up everything after this school year.

If it's anybody other than Aaron Cook at this point I will be stunned.

I will say that Lane Warner would be the perfect choice for this job, I just think it is meant for Cook to have it.

First, Congrats to Chris as well as his family for a great run at PHS. I'd bet it would be hard to find a better win-loss record over a similar span of time. He did his old coach proud.

Sage.... you're an RV alum right? LOL

As far as the next coach goes, I can't imagine anyone but Lane Warner if he's interested. One of Pleasant's best ever in high school, he also has head coaching experience. Wasn't he the O.C. a few years back when PHS was setting Ohio offensive records? I know at MG, they have restrictions for administrators being head coaches. Did PHS adopt that? I hope not. I remember Coach Cook from his time at MG also. Good young coach for sure but in my opinion, Lane Warner would be a slam dunk for the Spartans. He could handle following Kubbs for sure and PHS won't miss a beat.

Lane was indeed the OC during the 2001 season when Pleasant set all kinds of offensive records.

Just found out today - it's Aaron Cook. Not sure when they'll make it official to the public... (don't live in town, but family still does). Best of luck to Aaron and the rest of the program. Hopefully, we'll continue to be able to run 76/77 Belly, 42/43 Trap, and 46/47 Boot and the other 6 plays Kubbs ran and still be unstoppable! FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! Defend the tundra!

Pleasant's offense became too predictable the last several seasons.

He will need to mix things up and change some things offensively if he wants to keep things going.

It will be really interesting to see how the perception of the new coach will be if he cannot win like Kubbs did on a consistant basis in the MOAC.
