Man I miss a lot when I work all day, what do you guys do? lol. All kidding aside I never said Genoa's tradition/program was better than Orrville's so I'm confused as to why I was quoted as if I did? I personally think comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges, but that is in the whole East Ohio vs. West Ohio discussion. Although it's the same state, things are very different from region to region. Put simply, Genoa has plenty of tradition. That's not a knock towards Orrville, it's in defense to those from Orrville that think Genoa is some slack town with a football team that only has 3 years to show for themselves.
Genoa is the best team throughout history in the SLL, winning more titles than any other team, and having a winning record against every current member. You may not have much respect for that league, but over a 38 year history to be able to do that is pretty impressive. Coach Firestone won 109 games and, like what Rocketfan mentioned, fielded some of the most feared and mean teams around in the 70's. Before that, Coach John Roberts won over 100 games in his tenure. Thats back before they played 10 games a year too. Just because it happened before you were born does not mean it didn't happen. (Not aimed towards you BRF

) Those two coaches are the foundation of Genoa's history. After Boles left in 1997 you can tell Genoa's program did fall quite a bit. There were several coaches that came through and honestly a few of them were good coaches, but fell victim to Genoa "politics". "Play my kid, dont play theirs, run your team this way, and oh you better win or else you're out of here." Vicars coming in was huge for the program because it's finally becoming a winning program like it used to be and thanks to playoff expansion Genoa is being recognized on a state level. Genoa may not be well-known outside of NW Ohio, but around here those that know football know Comet history.
As for those that keep saying Vicars is on his way out, let's just say you're wrong. His son has quoted on the "major league" site that Mike loves Genoa and wants to retire here. Also Coach Speiss has said he wants his children to grow up here so it must not be all that bad of a town for them to want to stay here and coach the long term.
One last thing I would like to ask is, I read one poster say they only saw one Genoa poster come on and give Orrville respect after that game. Do you remember who that was? I don't expect to get respect in return, I'm just saying it'd be nice to get it because I am surely giving and I am yet to say anything bad towards your school.
