that was then, this is now...I'm curious-do you happen to know how many times they covered the spread in '08 & '09?

I've been in a football pool the past few years where we bet the spread. Rarely has OSU covered a blow out spread the past five years. I see the final score in the neighborhood of 31-10.

I'd say that 07/08 is a good match up as both offenses were highly touted. 08-09 offenses were good but everyone is back this season for OSU on the offensive side. There is no reason that they shouldn't cover the spreads just like the offenses did in 07-08.

From everything I've heard, this will be a more open OSU offense with Pryor under center.

I don't doubt that (open offense), I'm just not sure how much Tressel will show against Miami.

Of course, we all know Tressel uses formations and plays just to set up something the following week, so who knows. (the example of thinking of is the 06 season when several times against Indiana we had the hurry up to set up a dive play, and then against Michigan we used the hurry up on 3rd and 1 to set up the play action TD to Ginn).

LoL. Really?

09- -21 vs Toledo W 38-0
-44 vs NM St W 45-0

08- -36-vs YSU W 43-0
-20 vs UM W 42-7

07- -23 vs NW W 58-7
-31 Kent State W 48-3

06- -17 No Illinois W 35-12
-29 vs Cincy W 37-7
-30 vs Indiana W 44-3
-27 vs Minnesota W 44-0
-22 vs Northwestern W 54-10

05- -34 vs Illinois W 40-2
-19 vs Northwestern W 48-7

Don't let those pesky facts get in the way of your argument, though. Unless of course by rarely, you meant a minimum of 2 times a season and 13 times overall over the last 5 seasons.

^^ Not sure which service you are using (my pool used Danny Sheridan) to come up with the spread. I just know in my pool the Buckeyes not covering occurs more frequently than the other.

Again, as I noted above, I think the Bucks blow out Marshall, I just see it as a 31-10 type game with a lot of young guys getting playing time late in the game.

Phil Steele had them going 7-6 in 2008. I couldn't find 2009 on his website, but looking at the scores from last year I think they did pretty well covering.

thanks--I knew they did pretty well in 06-07 as krambman said, I just wasn't sure about the last couple of years.

Actually they didn't do as well as Krabman posted. 9-4 in 2006 and 7-5 in 2007. Still pretty good by betting standards.

28 is a lot of points and Marshal is not that bad IMO. It is definitely possible but OSU has a history of not covering spreads like this one.

They should win by at least 21 and with that I would be pleased.
