So at our first meet yesterday, there were several girls wearing black socks that came up to their calves. Is this just a fashion statement or am I missing something? Looked weird to me but I am now considered "old school."

No, I have kids that wear compression socks. They were what basketball players wear nowadays.

You answered your own question. haha!

While head bands and long socks do serve some purpose, I think most teams that wear them it's just for the fashion statement.

Talking about being old school, I remember when racing in short shorts was common. Now ya see kids racing with shorts that go down to their knees. Of course, some of these same kids wear their ball caps sideways.
