Colvin's drive scorched more than Bruce thought and it gets to the wall driving in a run and Colvin, the tying run, gets to 3rd.

In the last few weeks, starting with the Cards at the Reds, I have noticed playing fields are more firm and the balls bounce thru better, especially in the infield, and I think that is a major factor in so many high scoring games. And I think that is what happened to Bruce, the route he took wasn't the proper one because of the firmness. I think it was not a matter of effort. But like my dad told me, even if you know you can't get it, make it look like you are at least trying.
The surprise top two hitters in the Reds line-up have paid off for Dusty. In their first inning plate appearances they saw a total of 17 pitches between them and they both reached base, with the only mess up being Valaika swinging thru a high fastball on the hit and run, and hanging Bruce out to dry. But then Valaika doubled and was knocked in by Joey.
After three plate appearances for each: 4/5 with 3 HR, 4 R, 5 RBI, and a BB.
And a 6-1 Reds lead!

That is 7 excellent innings for Cueto with 100 pitches, no walks, 8 Ks, and a 6-1 lead. Will that be all for him? And will Francisco hit for Cueto?

1,2,3 inning for Cueto, now at 111 pitches. How about putting in Ondrusek for the 9th to try to regain some confidence!

That's what you do with the Cubs.
That had to be one of the all-around top games to attend from weather to excitement to quickness.
