Team USA will be fine. They just beat the next best team with a completely different core group of players than they had last time. And they really could have pulled away there at the end instead of letting Spain get so close. I see no reason why they shouldn't win the whole thing this summer. They still have way more skill and talent than anyone else, and they have great coaching.

According to Fran Fraschilla , the team from Greece is the team to beat from Europe.I agree the U.S. has the best talent and the deepest bench, but many of the European teams have played together for a few years. They just beat the next best team with a completely different core group of players than they had last time.
BTW, Jose Calderon, who plays for the Raptors, will not play for Spain in the World Championship tournament. He injured his hamstring and is out for 4-6 weeks.

Rondo supposedly withdrew himself from the team, citing family issues. This coming after he announced he thought he was on the bubble.

Pretty much. He had a feeling he wouldn't make the team so he used the great excuse of "family matters." If these so called family matter were so bad, why the hell did you accept the invitation to the team in the first place?!? He lost the starting job to D Rose(why he wasn't the starter in the first place IDK) and was moved to the 3rd PG behind Russell Westbrook.

Very interesting situation for Rondo. He played really well in the playoffs and had people talking about him as the best PG in the league. I never really bought into that, but he certainly established himself with his play. But he was on the verge of getting cut?
And before anyone jumps on me, I understand that the international game is different and they allow more contact out on the perimeter, which certainly hurts Rondo's game.

I think that was a strong possibility. Shooters are paramount in international play and shooting is not one of Rondo's strengths. He is a shooting liability on the perimeter and at he free throw line. But he was on the verge of getting cut?

The same people dissing on Rondo and calling him a bitch are the sames people who were calling him the number 1 -2 guy in the playoffs last year... Rondo has earned and deserves to be the starter on the team. I hardly believe Rondo would commit to the team only to be the 2nd or 3rd PG on the roster. By not getting any playing time vs. Spain and hardly any in the game before that he didn't want to sit on the bench the whole summer and not play so why not go rest up for next season. It's as simple as that...

Clearly it aint, or he wouldnt use his family as a reason.
Not to mention, you dont earn a spot on a national roster by your play in the playoffs. you earn it by being better than your teammates in practices. Something Rondo likely wasnt able to do, especially given the way the international game is played.
And if what you said is the truth, than Rondo is indeed a bitch for withdrawing, ESPECIALLY if he went and used "family matter" as the reason.

Rondo is a bitch because Cleveland couldn't deal with him in the playoffs. He used and abused the Cavalier's backcourt. He's a nightmare march-up for most NBA teams, but his game isn't suited as well for the international game. Packed in zones and physical defense take away what Rondo does best, break down a defense off of the dribble. The same people dissing on Rondo and calling him a bitch

As someone already posted, the international game is based on shooting. That has been part of the downfall of previous USA teams. Rondo couldn't throw it in the ocean if he were on a boat.

The most "shocking" part if your AIDS infested fingers typing more shit about Cleveland when it has nothing to do with this conversation. Whether or not Rondo beat the Cavs has nothing to do with his inability to make a team, and then bitching out claiming "family issues" as the reason he is leaving...what's wrong Rondo? Couldn't handle the truth that you didn't make the team???

What's ironic is that this discussion started off with people talking about this was a team that was lacking the egotistical stars, yet it seems to be Rondo's ego who couldn't handle being "cut" and had to save face.
Obviously Rondo's game isn't suited for international play, and he probably knew that, so there really isn't any shame in not making the team after he really established himself this post season. He makes his money playing for the Celtics, not Team USA, so not a big deal really.

If you were the best PG on a team and you were sitting and watching....wouldnt you be pretty frustrated as well?SportsAndLady;460771 wrote:Wow he made Mo Williams his bitch, he must be something special lolololol

You have to understand that just because he's the best PG for the Celtics doesn't mean he's the best PG for Team USA. Every team has different needs and roles and Rondo just didn't fit.

Thank you dynasty.
And on top of that, even if he is the best PG, you're gonna quit and blame it on "family issues?" Like I said...bitch.

Rondo's brother Will's response as to why Rondo may have withdrawn:
“That’s my mother’s brother and we’re a small family. I’m not sure how you put it in words. He was really close to my uncle (Who recently passed away). All of us were. Maybe it got overwhelming and he decided he needed to take some time away from basketball. You never know.”

You guys were talking about how the international game is based on shooting...Well look at 2 of the 3 pgs they have left Rose and Westbrook...both cannot shoot a lick either

But I also made the statement that it's a more physical game on the perimeter. Rose is as strong of a PG as there is and is probably even better at getting to the rim than Rondo. And Westbrook is stronger than Rondo, but what could have helped him more is his rapport with Durant, who is this team's best player.

Probably not a good idea to quit if he ever wants to win a gold medal in the future.

I just notice that a lot of Cleveland fans are not high on Rondo.....pretty obvious why that is. Keep on with the immature insults.....it is expected of you.
