Should OHSAA separate the public and private schools for the playoffs? Keep in mind, in the largest divisions (D1 and D2), the public schools won state last year. Also, if OHSAA does decide to separate the schools for playoff action should there still be 6 public divisions and 6 private divisions?

This issue has been talked to death. No, we shouldn't change the current system.

No, the system shouldn't be changed. To be the best, you gotta beat the best. That's all there is to it.

Yes....last year they did....But let's look closer....shall we?

There are currently seven (7), private schools playing DI, so out of the approximately 120 total schools in DI, that means there are one hundred and thirteen (113) public schools in DI.

Public schools represent 94%, privates, 6%.

Yet, of the 38 DI State Championship games, the privates have won 23 of them, 60%.

When 6% of the total wins 60% of the prizes, there should be changes made.

Now I know numbers don't always show the real picture, and to prove that, of the 23 Championships that the privates have won, Moeller and Ignatius have won 17 of them.

In the 70s, there were approx. 250 schools competing at the AAA level every year for a State Championship, (compared to the approx. 120 today), yet Moeller seemed to dominate. I'm sure that had something to do with the fact that they were getting kids from several different states.

Privates and publics have faced off 20 times in the championship game, with privates winning 15 times, (75%), of the five (5) losses, three of them have been to Canton Mckinley.

With all that said, I don't think they should seperate them either.

I think a bigger problem is the numbers, as I've said before, their is no ceiling in DI, therefore, if a school with, say, 1171 boys, were to play a school with, oh, I don't know, 550 boys, that's a diff. of approx. 600 boys. The ceiling in DII is 168, DIII 96, DIV 74 and DV 51.

Schools with low #'s in DI, that can compete year in and year out are Massillon and Glenville and occasionally Lima, the next teir up are Upper Arlington, McKinley, Warren and Dublin, after these 7, the large enrollment schools rule the day.

Legit or not..it's nothing that's going to change. No reason to change it. Just b/c you can't beat someone...doesn't mean you have to mess with the system in place.

Would be far easier just to give everyone a trophy.

I agree it's not going to change, and, as I've stated above, I don't want it to. But....to say there is no reason to, I disagree with. It's easy for someone who cheers for a DII team to say "if you can't beat someone", if your team (Logan), makes it to the Championship game, the biggest school you'll have to face along the way will have 64 MORE boys that you, Massillon, on the other hand, playing in DI, if they make it, the difference will be, (possibly) more than 600 boys.

We've heard this before, how about bringing something relevant and or fresh to the discussion.

Logan was in the same boat there boss. We were division 1 up until 3 years ago when we finally dropped to division 2. We were always one of the smallest in division 1..smaller than Massillon even, but nobody was ever calling for a change. While we didn't make it to the Championship...we still had some playoff success being a small fish in a big pond.

Hey there...."boss"....I'm not the one calling for change, I am not the one who started this thread, (or the 200 before this one), let me clear this up once again as I have in TWO (2) earlier posts, I DON'T WANT THE CURRENT SYSTEM TO CHANGE. I'm only giving my honest opinions.

If they separate them why would the Privates stay as members of the OHSAA? Why wouldn't they create their own regulatory body?

How would that impact OHSAAs revenue?

Who cares what the privates do? Who cares what the publics do? The OHSAA does, therefore there will be no changes unless it somehow keeps everybody happy, including the pocket books OF the OHSAA.

And Chiefs, we're cool, I'll pull it back a notch.

That was kind of my point. The OHSAA is not going to cut all that revenue out.

Hard to do as it's been pretty well talked to death. Seems clear to me that a high percentage of those who complain about unfair advantages are really saying "our kids aren't good enough. Dilute the field until they are".

If it's been talked to death, you always have the option to refrain. Being from Massillon, I think you'll believe me when I say I have NEVER felt that, "our kids aren't good enough", and if you read the above posts, I believe you'll find at least three (3) different times where I say I DO NOT want the system to change, (this makes four (4)).

That dilute comment is funny considering your parochials in the 'Queen city' include St. X, who has 1100 boys and can hand pick them, and Moeller who use to get boys from several different states.

How many times has Hoover agreed to play Massillon? Looks like you're winning the race.
