Lochte is tough right now, but my money is still on Phelps in London. Phelps has taken some extra time off lately, and isn't in shape like he usually is. Lochte may not be 100% either, but I think he has been training a little more than Phelps, or at least that's the impression that the commentators made. I wasn't surprised that Lochte beat Phelps in the backstroke, but the win in the IM was unexpected. Should be interesting to see how the events go from now until 2012 though. It would be nice if these two guys pushed each other to get even better than they already are.

By the way, has Phelps said what events he's actually planning on doing at the Olympics? I know he's dropping the 400 IM, but I haven't heard anything else. The 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 200 IM, and 200 Free were his other events, other than the three relays, at Beijing. He has said he'll definitely be scaling back from the eight events at Beijing, but if he sticks with seven total, that's still a pretty demanding program.

I agree. I don't think Phelps has decided. For neither being in top shape they sure blew away the field. Ryan has started eating right and knows he has to make the sponsor money while he can. The knee injury was a blessing in disguise. He is lucky the recent groin pull wasn't worse. Ryan's dad is a swim coach; Rex Tullius is also from Daytona, he finished 7th in the 200 backstroke finals.
