Of all starting position players in Major League Baseball, who is the worst? Let's discuss ... my nomination:
Luis Castillo, New York Mets
2010 stats: .249 BA, 0 HR, 15 RBI, 48 runs, 7 SB ... ZERO range at second base, in the third year of a horrendous 4 year, $25 MILLION contract!!!

Michael Brantley might be below .100 by now, but he hasn't been an everyday player most of the season.

BJ Upton is doing a bang up job for Tampa Bay hitting like .220.... no wonder Longoria had to put him in his place...
Aaron Hill and Adam Lind for Toronto after monster years last year are hitting like .206 and .220 respectively

Looking at the stats, Cesar Izturis for the Orioles would probably be at the top. Horrible OPS, no power, not much speed.

I wouldn't put BJ Upton in this list he is a player...remember what he did in the 2008 playoff....he is far from the worst....

Upton just came to my mind after hearing him run his mouth and get in a fight w/ Longoria and then seeing how his numbers have just been putrid over the course of the season... maybe he should keep his mouth shut and spend more time in the batting cage

well being a Yankees fan I naturally watch a lot of AL East baseball. I watch other teams but not as close or with as much frequency as I see those teams. And seeing as I watched Toronto the last 3 days those 2 guys really jumped out at me

I was going to say Mariner's catcher Rob Johnson, but he was sent to AAA 2 days ago.
.191, 2 HR, 13 RBI, .293 OBP, .574 OPS. And he leads the majors in passed balls with 9. I think he would have had the award on lockdown.

Upton's 2008 playoff performance was an anomaly and huge cocktease for us Rays fans. He'll have to fight for his job next season if they bring him back as I think he will reach arbitration this offseason. In my twisted mind he is the Gerald Green of the MLB. Very athletic and occasionally shows flashes of brilliance but that's all you get.

Troy Glaus since the calendar turned to June. Although he might not count as he has been sat down in favor of Eric Hinske.

Fortunately, Andy LaRoche (no bat, inconsistent fielding at 3B) and Ryan Doumit (worst fielding catcher I've ever seen...who doesn't have the bat to compensate) no longer start for Pittsburgh!

Bruce and Stubbs have really struggled but have no business anywhere near this list if for no other reason than their defense. These guys are both great outfielders.
Taveras and Patterson would have been run away winners here a few years ago.

None of your arguments have swayed my opinion ... name an MLB starting player WORSE than Luis Castillo. It is an impossible task.

Can't to never see Laird again after this season. He sucks so much that you might as well put up an out as soon as he steps in the box.
