I was about to applaud the Indians for this move. (They signed him for peanuts) but now that they might have only got cash I have to reconsider. He was one of their more consistent players all year. He isn't young, but he certainly isn't old. They could have given him another short term deal and watched what would happen.

Just a curious move for me. I guess I wouldn't have as much of a problem if they get a prospect back.

This trade absolutely blows my mind..... of all the deals and we get Austin Fucking Kearns?!? This screams to me that the Berkman deal is dead in the water and if this is our best option for a DH I'll be pissed

The Berkman deal is not dead.

It cannot become official until tomorrow because he is a 10-5 player.

Well that makes me feel a lot better. I just don't like this deal at all. We had a dearth of young outfielders that were doing a decent job at filling the void

I don't understand how all of these guys are going to get enough plate appearances to stay sharp. Their bench is going to be ridiculous.

I don't get it either.

This probably means Colin Curtis is on his way back to Scranton, or Marcus Thames is going to be DFA'd in a couple of days

Let them keep their cash and prospect, but just make them take Hafner

sometimes a deal benefits both teams...this one seems like it benefits no one. Hell, the Tribe didn't even get an A ball player with a bad arm.

^^^^

you never know what you're going to get. I believe teams have up to a year to decide on the player to be named later

very typical Yankee move for making a playoff run....
they have more than enough cash to throw at role players, which is clearly where Kearnsy fits in here.

3 out of 5 times, that kind of blindly aggressive movement wins titles. They are stockpiling bench strength.

I wouldn't exactly call it bench strength, but hey, whatever.

I thought the Aaron Boone deal was stupid at the time but look what happened on that one

maybe "bench strength" is not the right word, but the Yankees have a history of paying big for "fourth outfielders" when the playoff run is nigh.

no probs, if I owned the YES Network and had the studs under contract in NYC, i would do the exact same thing.

I would make Kearns my 5th OF right now behind Colin Curtis as the4th, who's proven to be reliable. All Marcus Thames is good for is hitting LHP's and Papelbon

Darby...Where does getting Berkman leave Posada? Is he going to catch in the playoffs? You feel comfortable with that?

I am guessing here because I dont follow the Yankees day-to-day lineup...

SS-Jeter
OF-Granderson
3B-ARod
1B-Teixiera
DH-Berkman
OF-Swisher/2B Cano
2B-Cano/OF Swisher
C-Posada
OF-Kearns/Gardner

Colin Curtis over Thames? Really?

Must be nice to have an OF with an OPS of .817 be your 6th OF.

Austin isn't and never was in the future plans for the Indians. We have too many outfielders as it is now.

Next season, with Grady back, we'd have Choo, Brantley, Grady, Crowe, not to mention a couple of the prospects like Jordan Brown and Nick Weglarz who are guys who could see time this year or next.

NCF, how is it stupid when more then likely Kearns wasnt going to be back next year. With all the young OFs the Indians have right now, Kearns is the odd guy out.

Kearns was not that expensive and could have been signed for relative peanuts. A team needs some veterans. The Indians have given up any semblance of being a major league team. I'm all for the young outfielders but do we have any who can hit the Mendoza line? Grady Sizemore hasn't played much in a year and a half...and when he did, he didn't look very good. If I'm counting OF's I'm seeing Choo and Crowe and a bunch of if/comes and ????marks. Anybody heard anything about Choo's Korean military status?....unless that's resolved, there's another question mark.

Let's see
LF Crowe
CF Sizemore?
RF Choo ?
3B Nix/Marte?
SS Cabrerra
2B Donald (snicker)
1B La Porta
C Santana

Not a lot of MLB experience in La Porta/Santana/ Donald. This team is a fucking joke.

Anybody notice who's in the top 5 for AL pitchers ...Sabathia, Lee, and Pavano....I'm mad...very mad.
