ECU loses a close one to Southern Miss 31-28. Both offenses pretty much moved the ball at will. The game winner came when So Miss got the ball with :28 seconds left in the first half and managed to drive down for a field goal. ECU scored with about 3:30 left in the game to pull within 3 and decided to try to trust the defense to get the ball back. That trust turned out to be unfounded as ECU never got the ball back. Not sure why So Miss tried to punch it in at the goal line with >1:00 and ECU out of timeouts, but it didn't matter ECU stiffened up and gained a small moral victory. Fun game wish I could have been on the winning end but the Pirates played a lot better.

Sounds like he didn't want to ruin the red zone stats. But you cant really argue because he was only up 3 and I know you had no times. I see no problem with this at all. Sounds like a good game.

Like I said no big deal I was just curious what the thinking was. Actually the toss play he ran was probably more risky then a knee would have been. Much better chance of a fumble/strip.

My thought on it. The only way you have a chance to win at that point is if he runs a play, fumbles and you scoop and score it. If you lose by 10, what's the big deal? The benefits (a freak fumble leads to you winning) outweight the detriment (losing a game you were already losing by 7 more points). If this is a 24 point game then its bullshit, but in a game like this, he is actually doing you a favor and giving you a chance. Set everything to aggressive and mash the L1 button and hope for a strip.

In my life I've fumbled more times then not. Lesson is take a knee for me lol.

I took a knee... you still had the time out left and I was just trying to get the clock inside 1:00 so that I wouldn't have to run another play and could just kill it with a knee. Great game played though, was pretty back and forth, got some key stops when I needed to (well, lets just say a holding penalty called against ECU really killed them) and then was able to move the ball pretty well offensively

BYU escapes another close game with San Diego State. Last year the Aztecs came up 3 points short and again this year they come up 3 points short. BYU has won 16 consecutive games, and will look to make that 17 in a row when Boise State comes to town.

USM rebounds from an embarrassing loss at SMU to pick up a hard fought 35-24 victory over Central Florida. The win makes the Eagles 4-2 and 2-1 in CUSA as they hit the midway point of the season. Said Coach Darby, "I thought we were focused on what we had to do. We stayed the course and got some key defensive stops when we needed to. I thought we really executed well offensively today and it really helped to propel us to a victory."
