Week advanced. Bunch of byes and no user games..should make for a quick week. Get em in boys. Utah Utes now in the top 5..legit National Title contenders along with #8 BYU.

First BCS poll will be out next week, but upon futher review..BYU is #4 in the Media Poll and is receiving a first place vote. Utah received a first place vote in the Coaches Poll, that's what those fuckers get for giving me a vote.

BYU has a much tougher schedule then Utah.....down the stretch....The Cougars still have ranked games against, #17 Navy (6-0), #14 Boise State (3-2) and #5 Utah (6-0)

Navy is slowly and silently creeping their way up thru the polls. I can say that I'm the only 3* school in the top 25.

And right after I post that ^ I go play my game against Notre Dame and lose in overtime lol. I lost Ricky Dobbs in the 3rd quarter and that ended up being the difference. My defense was just plain horrible this game as we couldn't get a stop to save our lives. O well...live to fight another day

With the bye week happening this week for Southern Miss, the players and coaching staff took a moment to go back to work on fundamentals, as well as to really ratchet things up on the recruiting trail.

Coach Darby: "Eventhough we're 1-6, I've been suprised by the firmness of some of our recruits on their desire to wear the black and gold and come to Hattiesburg. There's a few kids we're really looking forward to getting on campus, and I think thats an incredible testiment to our coaching staff as well as our faculty and the rest of the students for providing an exciting atmosphere that people want to be a part of."

Southern Miss takes on UAB next week.

Southern Miss picks up another close victory at hom in Hattiesburg, 27-21 over the UAB Blazers. The Eagles rode a balanced attack and another outstanding defensive performance from Thornton, with 9 tackles to a win.

Said Coach Darby: "Another great effort from my kids, I liked the way they handled themselves late in the game, especially when they we were down heading into the 4th quarter, I saw no panic and full belief from everyone on our sideline that we could win this game. It gets us back to .500 in the league, and who knows, if things go our way down the stretch maybe we can sneak into playing for the conference title."
