No, if he would've ran for President obviously someone would've shot him. Just how it works in that family apparently

Believer touched on a point I'm about to make. Ted Kennedy would not have stood a chance because the mood of the country shifted away from the liberal politics of the 70's. The American people had just underwent gas rationing, the Iran Hostage crisis, high unemployment, sky-rocketing double digit inflation, etc which all were placed at the feet of Carter and the democrat party. Just as Obama and other congressional dems benefitted off of "Bush Fatigue", Regan, at first, benefitted from "Carter Fatigue".

Too soon?

All joking aside, I don't think he would've done well as Reagan had a way of talking directly to the American people during debates. That's where he would've smoked him.

Ted Kennedy was a serial molester of younger women and this pattern continued thru-out his adult life or at leat until he started to have erectile dysfunction. Virile Ronnie would have wiped the floor with this philandering buffoon of a man.

This thread reminded me of an old Gibby post on the old site (under a different name). IIRC, he was the guy who was certain that MLK was going to be RFK's running mate back in the 1960's and they were a shoo-in for the White House.

Like with this thread, there was no concept of history or the political spectrum of the nation at the time in question.

That's who I want running my country. Some drunken fool who didn't have the balls to save a young lady from drowning. Burn in hell Teddy.

No Nixon wouldn't have beaten RFK, no matter who his running mate was.

But this thread is about Teddy, and if his last name wasn't Kennedy, he would NOT have been elected to the Senate let alone the Presidency. He owes his political career to his brothers. That one would even consider him beating Reagan for the Presidency, implies little respect for good sense of the electorate.

RFK was far from assured the nomination in 1968, Humphrey was a head in delegates and McCarthy was staying in the race to the end.
And a RFK-MLK ticket
1968 is not 2008
MLK on the ticket does not give more votes to Kennedy, he already had the black vote.
What it does, is give more bigot votes to Nixon and more especially the third party candidate George Wallace
Who carried 5 states and nearly 10 million popular votes that year

Didn't read the wiki link...but I think RFK wins that primary. He was making a real run just before he died. The sympathy voters were gaining force. I still think Nixon would have won...but it would have been close. Nixon's nose grew when he stated that he would end the conflict in Nam quickly. All he did was get in and bomb the shit out of Cambodia and Laos. He was as big of a prick as the lying gutless coward LBJ was. At least Johnson had service in the military on his resume....unlike the whole band of chickenhawks that led us to these present day nightmares in the middle east.

The luckiest thing that ever happened to Ted Kennedy was that his accident with Mary Jo took place on the same weekend as the first moon landing. Instead of his story being front-page news, it was pushed to the back pages. People back then would have paid more attention to the story if it had been in the headlines.
