Cooler Master

That's the same case I picked in the original build.

Way to copy, you stupid...copy...stupid.

I.E. Dell/Gateway/Sony/Whoever would buy OEM parts and then throw them into computers. They normally come without a warranty and without the box.

OEM processors come with only the processor. No heatsink/fan, also no warranty.

Green drives are slow, BTW. I don't know you'd notice though.

Also, there's no case.

So there isn't a benefit to buying OEM other than price. I think it would be worth the few dollars to buy retail.

I probably wouldn't notice. Seems like they'd be more quiet if they were slower, right?

I also pointed out that I didn't have a case. Pay attention.

I have used 2 of those cases, why would I not recommend it? just to be different?

I find the case to be aesthetically displeasing so I wouldn't use it anyway. Ha.

Most drives nowadays are so quiet that the case fan/PSU fans/CPU fan drown out the HDD noise. You probably wouldn't tell a difference.

I normally go for retail.

I wouldn't buy a case....my computer is just hooked together and thrown in a Glad bag....don't buy a generic bag though....make it rain on a good one.

Amazon has a pretty good deal on a hard drive right now....it is an expiring offer though.

Just FYI, OEM products come with warranties just no support. IE: If you buy an OEM Windows disc you can't call them and be like "how do I install this".

But yeah, for this build it seems like you're better off getting retail.

And it's also locked to your mobo. You won't be able to use this disk on a different install on another machine. You can do multiple installs on your mobo however.

What about this combo deal? Only $25 for both after rebates. Sure, the video card isn't much but I wasn't even planning on getting one. Should this PSU be powerful enough to run this machine? I'm not sure how important the wattage is and this one is a bit lower than the others.

Definitely.

I think most dells, hps and other stock computers usually run 350W and that graphics card is low end....shouldn't be a problem at all.

SHOULD be okay...if you decide to upgrade your video card in the future you'd need a new one.

The woot today would be a steal, but it's sold out:

Cool. Hard to pass up the deal for $25 as I can't see myself upgrading for a while.

Seems like I'd be able to use these in a small HTPC, no?

Video Card may struggle with HD video. 1080p specifically.

I've finally started piecing this build together. I've ordered the case, psu, and optical drive. I'm going to end up spending a little more on this thing than I originally intended to but no reason not to to get a better, faster machine.

I'm going to go with the Phenom x4 965 processor and 4 gigs of Mushkin ram. Still can't decide on the motherboard (and possible video card).

Here is the case I went with:
Rosewill CHALLENGER
Couldn't pass it up for $35 with the great reviews it was getting. I also like that the chassis is black and not silver.

PSU:
OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W
Got this in a combo-deal with the optical drive and ended up getting the optical drive for free. It also have a $25 rebate.

Optical:
LITE-ON

I also picked up a $20 74-in-1 card reader for $9.

So far I've only spent $128 with $25 coming back in rebates.

Do you ever use tigerdirect.com? They normally have some pretty good deals on there.

I've never bought from them but I have looked. I've got an extension for Chrome that will see if the site I am looking at has the lowest price on the item. Sometimes tigerdirect or circuit city are cheaper than newegg but so far nothing that I've decided to buy has been cheaper elsewhere.

If you had to pick between the following mobo's, which would you pick?

MSI NF980-G65 - $159.99 ($139.99 after rebate)

ASUS M4A89GTD - $149.99 + $2.99 shipping
