What are your thoughts so far on new Cav's GM, Chris Grant? I'm interested to hear what Cav's fans think of how he is doing?

The guy walked into such a unique situation, inheriting a team that won 60 games and then fired their coach and GM. Obviously his first order of business was to resign Lebron, but I don't think there is much that Grant could have done to persuade Lebron one way or another.

He's been quiet up to this point, other than the Byron Scott hiring.

Is he the right guy to take over a franchise that is very fragile?

Too soon to tell. This did not deserve its own thread.

Was Scott a good hire? Yep. Could he have done anything to persuade Bron? Nope. Do I know much more about him? Nope. We'll figure more out about how good he is in the next few years as it all depends on how he's gonna go about either rebuilding (draft) or "reloading" (signing FAs)

Why do you care? You aren't a Cavs fan.

It is definitely too early to tell with Chris Grant. I think that the team is in need of a rebuild by accumulating cap space and draft picks. The more I read about potential of rebuild on the fly I do not like it. With that said, he had no shot of bringing in anyone who would have swayed LBJ's decision. I know some people are critical of him to do something such as trade for Chris Paul but honestly how far gone from reality is someone to think we had a legit shot at getting him? Collison, Johnny Flynn, Al Jefferson, etc... would be okay pick ups but nothing to keep LBJ here. In my mind Grant would be making a move for the sake of making a move.

Going forward in the rebuild will be where CG gets his rep as a GM. I honestly believe the Cavs should look into bringing Kevin Pritchard along for the rebuild in a President of Basketball Ops. move or simply to consult CG. His picks can be scrutinized but the man knew how to trade expiring contracts and make moves for lots of picks.

Gotta give him an incomplete at this point. He obviously hasn't done a whole lot yet, his grade will be dependent on how he does here in the next few weeks.

Pritchard would be a great get for them.

In all honesty for those of you who are critical of him, what would you have liked to see done differently? And not to pick on you jordo but I think the next few weeks is a small time table. Might be the time table if we had LBJ and we were looking for some pieces to put around him. But if we judge on the next few weeks and the Cavs make moves I believe the team would be stuck in that Milwaukee, Dallas, Utah mode of being too good for the lottery but not being a top team. I think next few years is a better judgment.

Yeah I agree, the next few weeks is a small time table. I'm not expecting him to get them to the Conference Finals or anything. I was just mainly saying that the moves he makes here in the next few weeks will be crucial for the team's future. (Dealing guys for space, finding value players, etc)

I agree about incomplete, though I disagree about the next couple weeks. Rome wasn't built in a day and Grant won't be able to either, hell no one could. He probably has the toughest job currently held by anyone in the NBA right now, with little to no experience. Tough spot assuredly.

I know his job is incomplete, but I think he can be judged at this point. I have a few things:

The goal heading into this offseason was to resign Lebron
1. Therefore, the day the season ended, Delonte West needed to be cut or traded ASAP. If the rumors are true, you can't keep him on the roster on free agent signing day. How in the hell do you expect Lebron to walk back into that locker room?
2. It sounds like Lebron really wanted to stay in Cleveland, as he was recruiting Bosh. That tells me that he wasn't happy with the current roster and that means Grant had to do something. I understand the few pieces they had, but you do whatever it takes to make a move.
3. Get into the draft. Whether you are rebuilding or not, they need some young talent.
4. Don't act shocked when Lebron leaves. They had to have had a discussion discussing the possibility and what direction to go if Lebron left. In their initial presser after, Grant said they didn't know which direction they would go. That's not something you want to hear after losing your franchise player, and then the owner promising a championship.

I hear ya about the next few moves. I am hoping Gilbert backs off the championship statement and realizes the only way to get back to the top is cap space and load up on young talent. I hate when teams obviously tank but if we have to watch Mo, Kid Congo, Green, JJ, Andy starting 5 next year I would at least tune in to see how Eyenga, Green and JJ play. Its when a team loads up on late 20's to 30-something guys who haven't panned out for other teams and expect the result to be different is when I lose interest.

Delonte was as good as gone, I'm sure that message was relayed in the sit down.

Recruiting Bosh was a front, he already knew where he was going.

The rest doesn't matter.

I completely agree with this! The Cavs are not winning a championship anytime soon, so let fans see some young and exciting players. I'd much rather go watch some of the younger guys play rather than Jamison and Mo Williams. Although they probably help you win now, you have to look to the future.

Way too early to tell. We could have had just about anyone and Lebron would have bolted....I think we will know in 3 yrs.

You make a lot of assumptions here that many current articles coming out would refute. You also pose as if you know something about the NBA, in which based on your post about cap space and LBJ, I will side with Grant here, thanks. Idiot post of the week.

Like other have said, it is way too early to tell. I just hope Grant is given the chance to be the GM. I hope Grant isn't just the GM in name with Gilbert really running things.

No way to tell yet. Besides signing a coach, what else has he done?

Until he makes an actual move, we won't know.

Rumors are rumors. Can't build a case for someone on rumors.

The question marks meant explain. I knew what you were saying. Explain to me where I was wrong.

And I know enough that Delonte West should not be on the Cavs roster if they wanted any shot at Lebron.
