It's sometimes possible to tell if a movie will be a classic immediately, just as it's possible to tell if a sporting event will be a classic. ESPN Classic showed the Boise State/Oklahoma game the day after it happened. Did you have a problem with that? Most likely not, because it is and will forever be a classic, in the same way that The Departed and Gladiator will be.

Meh, ESPN Classic goes overboard with what's a classic all the time. If they want to show me the 1975 Reds/Red Sox Game 6 I would consider that a classic. Not a game that I watched last week, regardless of how entertaining it was. Let history decide what is classic. You might decide a year later the game/movie was not as good as you had originally thought it was.
