Every generation that has come before has felt the one that followed had some sort of entitlement. Yours isn't the first and won't be the last, You're no better and no worse, just a different set of parameters.

i dont think anybody besides sleeper is saying our generation is superior. We're saying (atleast me) that we are not as bad as made out to be. And I cant stand stereotyping.

haha yeah, you go back far enough, i am sure some parents were like "gosh darn kids these days, all they wanna do is go out and drive their cars and listen to their radio shows. punk ass kids dont know what it's like to wake up every morning and feed the horses and check the axles on the wagon. our only form of entertainment was playing snap the whip in the wheat field."

I'm 37 years old. I do agree parents today coddle their children and enable the behavior we abhor. Parents do buy them the games, the cell phones, computers, etc. Parents are too concerned about not damaging their psychologically and are only worried about being their friends, not the parent. That being said, the kids need to suck it up as well and not act like the world is going to end because mom or dad asked them to push the Toro around for an hour or so.

As far as these kids having busy lives, when I was in high school I played baseball and football in the summer/fall. I remember having two-a-days in August and my dad telling me in between practice to be sure I took care of the lawn. I went to church and was as busy as a guy could be. That being said, I took care of the lawn or else my dad was going to whip my...

^^^ exactly. What's more I did not save time by having my parents give me a ride to anywhere. I rode my bike or walked.

I rode my bike everywhere in town pretty much up until I got a license (2002).
In terms of school, I rode the bus unlike many who refuse to (people who think their kids, or kids who think themselves that they are too good to ride a school bus, piss me off like no other. I will never understand why so many people freak out over the idea of riding a school bus)

With 2-a-days and stuff when I was in high school... luckily I have a brother 3 years younger than me, so his junior high ass was old enough to mow :p

I cut mine with a Scag zero-turn, it's a monster. It almost makes it fun...almost.

Zero turn is the way to go definately. I love mine and it won't be long before my daughter loves to mow with it in about 2-3 years.

It's cool bro. One of the luxuries of going to Ohio State is even when you make a mistake, you're still regarded as one of the top prospects in America and the world for greatness.

I learned to cut the grass 10+ years ago, and at age 22, I still do most of it on a weekly basis. It probably takes about three hours to do the whole yard counting trimming with the push-mower, and my dad and I split up most of it. It varies how much each of us do on a weekly basis. During exam week, when I was a lot busier with school and still working, he did most of it. Last week I think I did all of it, though.
We usually start the process on Wednesday-Thursday. He works 8-6 every day (including commute) so by the time he's home he doesn't like to spend a lot of time mowing, so if I have a day off work between Weds-Fri I will get most of it done and then Saturday when he's off he'll finish it up, then we'll be done for several days depending on rain and such.
My dad falls into the anal category, but rather then take it all upon himself, he just taught me and would get pissed until it was done right. It actually took me a couple summers to learn which roots you and and cannot mow over.

It's funny, though. Mowing the grass is one thing that has lead to more and more arguments. Early on, when he would ask me to mow, and I didnt because I forgot or I did and did a half-ass job, he would inevitably come home, notice what I had done (or hadn't in most cases) and not say a word, immediately change clothes, then go outside and start the mower, slamming every door he went through in the process. This has happened less and less each year, and so far it hasn't happened yet this summer. I think we finally found out routine.

not sure if you noticed or not, but nobody on here from the "younger generation" is using that bullshit excuse. It is parents on here saying that.

It is primarily my generation (Generation X, kids born between 1961-1981). GenXers aren't doing a good job as parents I'm afraid. We're too concerned with being friends with our children, afraid every little bump or bruise is either going to cause them death, dismemberment or psychological trauma. We are instilling a selfish value system in our children.

Little Danny;409883 wrote:I was having this conversation with someone the other day. In my neighborhood, there are a lo of teens and I never see them out cutting the grass. Their parents are doing it. In fact, right next door to me there are two twenty-something's who still live with mom and dad and the parents are still cutting the grass and taking care of the yard. My co-workers have indicated they see a similar pattern in their neighborhood.

Now I know there are some who are going to come on here and say they cut the grass, but I think overall there are less kids cutting the grass that in years past. I started cutting my parents yard when I was 8 years old. By the time I was 12, I was cutting people's grass to earn a little dough. Now I know kids today are busy with the advent of the Wii, X-box and playstation, but don't you think the moms and dad need to be sending Little Jacob and Little Johah outside to do a little work?

My son started mowing when he was 12. He mows our neighbor's yard for $20 and he mows my lawn. Every once in a while I'll mow my own lawn for the exercise and/or because last spring he played varsity lacrosse and ran track so he rarely had time to mow. If it rained on his "off" days then I ended up mowing.

Some of your guys need to give your kids a chance at cutting the grass. They can't screw it up that bad. It's grass for crying at loud!

Unless it is this kid:
