Be honest, how do you say it in daily conversation? I was recently out west with some family and this discussion came up. A lot of Ohioans pronounce it as the latter, although people in that part of the country pronounce it the former.

Actually I was under the impression they pronounce it Ore-GINN. Just like how people say Washington as Washingtin. Washingtin, Oregin.

Oregon, Ohio is definitely Ore-GON though.

ts, I guess your right. The last syllable was the part I was concerned about. So far everyone pronounces it "gun" but I know for a fact there is a boatload of Ohioans who pronounce it "gone". As I indicated I was out west recently and people there were telling me how much they hated it being pronounced that way.

The state, Or-eh-gun. The town close to me, Orie-gon. It's an easy way to avoid confusion amongst my peers.

As long as the syllable emphasis is on the first syllable I don't care how people pronounce it.

I say Or- eh- gahn.
