Key West @ Mallory Square (with the rest of the freaks)... of course at sunset. Only problem with the plan... instead of a beautiful evening, it was raining... but I still pulled the trigger.

I simply asked her if she would like to be my wife. I didn't have a ring, I thought it would be best to let her pick out the one she wanted.

Long story short, over the telephone...

We were a long distance relationship, so the one time we were together I used my cell phone to call the house where she was staying and I was there also at that time. I was up in the bedroom where I had put her stuff down and once she was on the phone told her to come up stairs.

When I heard her coming up the stairs I said something like this...

"We've had most of our relationship over the phone, matter of fact the first time I ever told you that I loved you was over the phone. So, I only think its fitting that I ask you to marry me over the phone."

I timed it "perfect" that as I said marry me she had opened the door and I was down on my knee with the ring.

There were many other things I did that day leading up to it, but that was the "finally" so to speak.

It's never a good idea to have fireworks around inflatables.

I told her to pack a bag because we were going away for the weekend. We went to the airport, flew to Paris, and proposed to her at the top of the Eiffel Tower overlooking a fireworks display at the Louvre.

Not engaged but my only wish is that it's a complete surprise. That means no ring shopping and no serious discussions about it.

LJ, five years ago I did it the same way you will be doing.

jmog, that's a cool way to do it. We were a long distance relationship too, so I can really appreciate how you did it.

I reserved a room for the weekend at a Bed & Breakfast in Long Island Wine Country, and reserved a private car and driver for 4 hours on that Saturday. He took us to several gorgeous vineyards, including one that had a private beach (which I knew in advance). I had called the owner of that vineyard earlier and she worked out a scenario where she would play dumb and start telling Websurfinbird and I the "history of the vineyard" complete with letting us walk to the beach overlooking Long Island Sound.

We walked (and walked) for a while, and my fiancee was actually getting pissed cause she wanted to drink wine! So I dropped to my knee on the beach and did it right there, and she cried and gave me the thumbs up! Then, we got completely hammered for the next 7 hours on wine.

I said "Hey baby do you wanna get married?" and her daddy said "She sure does" as he eased his thumb off the shotgun's hammer.

Just proposed about 4 months back,

Told the fiance that a friend from college was coming in town for a wedding and staying at the Hyatt Regency. The fiance started a new job on Monday so we went out to a nice dinner on Friday night to celebrate. Headed over to the hotel where supposed friend was staying and opened door to roses, banner, balloons and the sort. She said yes, so I said let's go to the bar to have a couple drinks and call friends/family, so we go over to the bar and I had a bunch of family and friends there waiting for us.

What made it pretty cool is that my dad knew the hotel manager and the manager upgraded us to the Presidential Suite (they don't even advertise it). The place was like 1500 square feet and looked out over the Arena District. Had a full kitchen and multiple rooms. Made it pretty cool since the room was regularly costs $1300 a night.

It really was wonderful and even though I did know I was going to be proposed to at some point I was completely caught off guard. I honestly don't remember what he said because I was to busy crying. It was one of the best moments of my life.

It was her birthday and I took her out to a really nice restaurant to celebrate. I had called ahead and arranged for a table in a more private part of the restaurant because the main seating area is usually shoulder to shoulder and is always packed. So we got seated in this nice little room with only a few other people in there. After dinner, I gave her a nice sentimental birthday card and told her that I forgot to put her present inside. She got pissed, thinking I got her a gift card and that's when I went down on one knee. I honestly don't remember what I said because it was all kind of a blur. I remember her crying for what seemed like forever. She said yes, and the other people in the room started clapping and bought us champagne and the waiter brought us over dessert.

My wife was the same as WSB, she was balling for like 10 minutes and couldn't say a word.

I finally had to say "can I at least put the ring on your hand so I can get off my knee?"

Then she kind of laughed a little at that as she continued to cry.

I proposed on Independence Day of 2001. It was on Fountain Square in Cincinnati. I gave some funky line like 'on this day, many years ago, a new union was founded and I'm ready to give up my independence and form a union with you.'...she was like WTF ??? until I broke out the ring.
