I'm with you but there was one poster who seems to constantly blast the offence and the QB and I just wanted to point out he has done a fairly good job for his age and inexperience. I has been watching Orrville football for 5 decades now and just just think we need to give our kids all the support we can and leave out all this negativity.

Wagons...welcome. Don't take criticism as not being supportive of the team. Granted, if you think this is just a cheer leading site to say everything is always great, you may be disappointed. We all love the Riders and their tradition. We rightly or wrongly feel this is a place to discuss. Sometimes things are said that should not be, and I am sure you are referring to posts who seem to call out a particular kid. I am sure nobody posting for Orrville want to upset a young fella....but we do want them to understand what it means to play football for the Red Riders. They need to understand and appreciate that "Pressure is a Privilege" here in Orrville and relish that fact. I appreciate you joining in that discussion.

This ain't nothing like it was a scant few years ago.

Welcome as well....and I'll echo 5knots, we're here to discuss our thoughts and opinions, and sometimes our frustrations. It should never be personal, and I havent seen anything resembling an attack on a young person.

But such is the constant stigma of "internet sites" like this one. People think we're just faceless people slinging mud and tearing down teenage kids. It's simply a digital discussion, nothing that doesn't happen at Mrs J's restaurant. I know most everyone here and they know me. There IS accountability for our words.

I have been critical about the offense play calling (Lexington a good case for 3 quarters of the game) and been critical about the QB position. Being critical about the QB(Who is identified by first name sometimes)is NOT aimed at the boy playing the spot as a person but at the positions importance to the offense in a game. 90% of everything that happens on offense goes through the QB position unless it is a direct snap or wildcat. That makes the QB probably the most most important player to the offense. The starting players on the team are playing to win nothing less. The seniors on the team want their final season to be about winning every game and going to the playoffs. The players do not work hard and practice everyday to go out and lose. The ability of whoever plays at the QB spot in very large part will determine the effectiveness of the offense to score. The varsity players want the best person for the QB spot at the QB spot because they want to win. I would seriously question wether they are interested in putting somebody at QB because that person needs playing time so they will be better for the next 2 seasons. We need the best person at the QB spot this season because like it or not the team prepares to win and win every game and put the people that can best accomplish that task in every game. I question the current QB being there not because of him as a person but because of the mistakes. He may be the best person on the team to play that position. He also may not be. Again I say the players are preparing every week to go out play hard and win nothing less. Being critical about a position where questions are being asked about the effectiveness of the person currently at that spot have nothing to do with the criticized players intentions. I believe every player on any team has winning intentions for the team they are on. The criticism of a position is recognition of errors or weaknesses that need to be overcome or changed for the team to have improved chances of success.

We're all in-bounds here.....no need for anyone to justify their words. I've been proud of the Orrville folks. We talk a lot and have no shortage of confidence....but that's it.

Except for 5knots and riders1.......they've just made the list. :)

For your information riders1....I think I'm going to be among the rowdies this week. Gonna just be a fan for once. Looking forward to it.

It's all good Go Riders...you don't need to justify anything to us....the newbie needs a little time, that's all. And I would disagree with RedRider1 about the same converstions at Mrs. J's and the likes.....I've heard those conversations.....they are not PG rated! haha

...off the subject here, but has anyone noticed our helmets lately? What is with the paint job? I understand that you exchange paint with other teams, but our helmets actually look as though they are scraped to the white primer. We haven't even played a team with white helmets. It looks bad!

When I played I recall having the stripes tear away because they were actually tape (thanks to John Plybon and the Industrial arts class), but never did the actual black paint itself scrape away so easily. The only paint that would be on the helmet that was not black was from the opponents facemask and helemt color.

Anyone else notice this? If you look close at the picture from the West Holmes game on redridersblog (#51)...you can see it....its looks BAD!

OldRider.
Yes...I've noticed it....got another picture where it's even more obvious. I meant to post it but forgot.....I'll crop it down and post it tonight.

Derek Graber and Trevor White's helmets are beyond scuffed....I'd worry about their structural integrity at this point. I think all the line guys have scuffs, but theirs really stand out.

OrrvilleQB08 said the stripes are actually painted on now...no more tape.

I know the guys think they're battle scars....but they really need touched up. Looks horrible. No wonder we're having concussion problems.....the evidence is on the helmet.

Here's the picture Old Rider is talking about....I'll try to get the other one up tonight too.

RR1...yes that looks TERRIBLE! Maybe time to change who repaints the helmets each year. When I played our helmets never did that! The tape would tear and paint rubbed off from opponents helemts...but never this^^^

When I played the black paint stayed on well, it was just the lineman who got a few scrapes and chips on the front/top of the helmet. It was never as bad as what that picture shows. I do know that if a player had a big paint chip, he got a new helmet. Maybe we just don't have those extra helmets like we used to.

Like RR1 said, the helmets now are fully painted, no decals or striping on them. The stripe on the helmet is in the paint job.

Would you rather have a physical team with bad looking helmets, or a team laid back team that looks good. I prefer the physical team, but the helmets should not look like #51.

This is a lie. :-)

But I'm glad my daughters will be on the field....just in case! ;-)

On another note: how about that SinisterMinister climbing all over my case about being a bully on the Ashland thread? Watch me "schmooze" her to realizing that I'm a good guy! Hahahaha!

I have a comment about specials teams. On kickoffs we sit Mason, Max and Tre sometimes. Ashland will have their fastest people in to recieve. I think having our best players on the field on kickoffs in the beginning of the game is very important. We have given up to much field position on kickoffs the last few games. We have had lots of missed tackles. Big plays on special teams happen all the time. I think we should put the best people we have in on kickoff especially this game. Field position will be extremely critical. If we could create a turnover it will be huge.

^^It's been like that for years.

I counted during one of the TV game replays...there were at least 6, maybe 7 guys that came off the field after kick coverage. And numbers that I didn't immediately recognize. SO it's obvious that our "best" guys arent in kick coverage.

We're not getting kicks inside the 10 either...so if a guy is catching the kick between the 10 and 15, he's going to get 10 yds before encountering any defenders.

I'd say anything inside the 40 is good considering our length on kickoffs.

Pretty sure their Mr. Everything, Chris Thomas will be returning kicks....we need to have our studs in there covering him as well.
