I'll set it straight from the start, I love my mom, but she is a mooch. First of all she invites herself to come back with me from OH to FL with $5 dollars to her name. She said she will cook, clean, and baby sit our daughter so we wouldn't have to pay for summer camp...so the plot starts to thicken. I had a shitload of work to do the day after I got back and at 10:00am mom came outside and told me she was tired can you watch your daughter while I sleep? Uhhhhh...OK. I keep on working and then my daughter is bored asking if I can play with her, I felt bad for her so I did the right thing and spent time with my daughter....five hours later mom wakes up and asked if I got alot of work done today, I was stumped at this point, confused. She eats more than we do at our AT OUR EXPENSE, adds items to my wife's grocery list for her, she's the first one to grab a plate at supper, and she leaves skid marks in my toilet........??????

Two and a half weeks later nothing has changed besides my daughter going back to summer camp after the first day of Grandma's arrival.

What would you do in this situation?
Bus or Plane ticket back to OH?

OCALA, Fla., June 24 (UPI) -- Florida wildlife officials say the alligator that attacked a snorkeler at Silver Springs
this week was 11 1/2 feet long and topped 500 pounds.

In all seriousness, it's awful that she would take advantage of you like that. Seems like she knows your back is basically against the wall here, I mean you can't just throw your mom out ya know?

Mom has always taken advantage. The problem is my wife finds it harder to deal with than me.

The wife's idea is the cheapest way to get her out of our house and back home. That would be better than the wife and daughter staying at her parents hous till the problem is resolved. I have to figure out a smooth way of words to ask mom it's time to go.

Maybe mom is just trying to get back at you? What she is doing to you is probably what you did to mom when you lived with her.

My mom and dad are coming to live with me for a week or so this Sunday (before they move back to Illinois). When they asked, I said I would talk to my wife.

They will be paying a portion of the grocery bill while they are there and also some extra for the additional water/electricity they use. I lived off of them for 18 years, I know. But now I have kids of my own living off of me. They weren't pissed, they understood and agreed.

Sit down with her and explain that to her. Tell her she either antis-up or you will "split" the cost of a ticket for her to go home. Explain that it's nothing personal, but you're an adult now and have a family of your own to take care of.

Tough situation. It should be unspoken, if your parents come live with you or you have to go stay with them, that you help each other out. If my parents came to stay with me, we wouldn't even have to speak about groceries or utilities, they would just do their part. Of course if they were just coming for a week, I wouldn't let them pay for anything. They gave me a damn good life as a kid, and I would owe it to them to let 'em stay without financial obligations.

I think that se-alum has it right about not charging parents for a week's stay in your home. I think we do owe our parents something for the time and energy and love that they gave us when they raised us, however when it gets a little bit dicey is when the parent or parents didn't really show any care or concern whatsoever when we were growing up. We essentially raised ourselves and taught ourselves life's lessons under quite a bit less than ideal circumstances. My first reaction would be to welcome your parent or parents into your home because perhaps you can finally sit down and converse during this time. I just can't see hating parents and never making things right even if you have to take the major steps. There will be that funeral coming up and you may want to have one more chance to reconcile and the chance is gone forever. Or, you can just as politely as possible let your parents know that it has been great (even if you have to lie a bit) but you need to get back to some things and you will get in touch about a future visit. Perhaps your parents can be proactive and invite you to their place for a week?

You don't work to spend time with your daughter, you get fired from work. You get fired from work, you have no money, you lose your child.

Find some friends for your daughter or tell your mom to put the c-pipe down and play with your daughter

From what I've read here:

1. Mom wasn't a factor in your life growing up.
2. Mom is being a leech now.
3. Mom isn't fulfilling the terms set that gave her the opportunity to be a leech.
4. The situation is creating discord in your family to the degree it appears that your wife is prepared to take herself and your kid to her parents' house as a step to get you off your ass to do something about things.

Unless I'm misreading things, you're basically being used by a conniving bitch who's using family ties as a convenient way to get a free ride. Time to cut those ties...unless you're cool with being without a real family while putting your time and resources into supporting your mom...you know, as a way of repaying her for NOT being there in your life while you were growing up.
