Jose Rijo vs Dave Stewart

oops....Mike Leake vs Gio Gonzalez

I think it's real simple for the Reds....yes they may lead the ML in HR.....but the park they play in is a flyer........Seattle and Oakland don't have HR parks and the Reds just need to take this lefty and hit it hard where it's pitched...quit trying to jack everything out of the park......ball caught on the warning track don't count for a lot of runs.

I think the Reds should sign Billy Hatcher for this series......A's fans would cringe.

It would be nice to sweep the A's just like the 90 WS. Won't happen though. We'll lose 2 of 3.

maybe these guys will figure out a way not to pop up 2 out of 3 batters every inning.

not trying to hit a HR every time would assist in that

I think you are right on target with this comment. The Reds need to adjust their approach to the park and the pitcher they are facing! In these two big west coast parks the recipe is to first get baserunners any way they can, then plan on it taking two singles after the baserunner reaches to score a run, or just one single if they utilize the sacrifice or stolen base. But those well hit warning track fly balls are of no value unless there is a runner on 3rd and less than two out, and you are not down by several runs. Need to think patience and singles.

they won't drop any bombs tonight; Oakland, er, McAfee Coloseum is a fucking huge park, and tons of foul territory....gonna need to keep the ball out of the air

Reds sign Gary Matthews Jr. prior to the game tonight. That means that A) a trade may be coming (involving Heisey, Alonso, etc...), B) Laynce Nix's days are numbers or C) Chris Dickerson is out WAY longer than expected.

Then again, Matthews is even worse than Corey Patterson so...

Very interesting stat Marty had. Oakland leads the AL in home ERA, and is last in the AL in road ERA.

Reds take advantage of some poor A's defense to score the games first run!

Only a minor league deal, and it's not a done deal yet. Hopefully it's just for insurance, nobody in AAA is doing very well. Dickerson probably won't be helpful the rest of the year, that injury typically takes almost a year to recover fully from.
