When I went to the barber years ago I always tipped him/her. I refered to it as a 'finders fee' from trying to find my hair.

My wife cuts my hair. Sometimes I give her the tip, sometimes she gets the whole thing.

My wife's aunt owns her own salon. She used to own one over in Hartville, OH but when she had kids her husband converted their 2 car garage into a single chair salon and she does it out of her house.

She does it part time, not full time as she is still a full time mother, and she will tell you that tipping is much appreciated, but not mandatory for them to make any money.

Oh, and sometimes she will cut my hair for free because we will watch her kids whenever she wants to go do something, other times I go to my barber. Its $12 there and I give him $15.

My hair was always cut/clippered for $8.......never tipped as it took roughly 12-15 minutes.....then she got a little mouthy with her conversation (nothing to do with the tip) and went to Wal Mart and bought some $39 clippers and my wife has done my hair 98% just like it for the past 6 years.

I don't understand the tipping for anything that isn't getting paid under minimum wage....like the girl at the local dairy bar or waitresses.

Why not tip the girl working the drive thru at McDonald's for getting your drink and baggin your food? Do you guys tip the dentist? Everyone tip the emergency room receptionist? YOu guys tip you lawyer? You tip your car salesman....insurance agent? Lifeguard??? Why not?

I got a speeding ticket a year or so ago.....should I have tipped the patrolman?

You tip basic service people when it is warranted.

Also:

ok....then the hairdresser should consider her days off a tip

and I make less money during the summer months....so if anything they are taking away my tip

i go to the beauty school or whatever it's called where the girls are just learning to cut hair. for 5 bucks it's pretty damn good. and if they do a good job, i'll leave a 5 dollar tip, that's only happened twice.

I had to have 220 quarter hours. Yeah......that was all free with no advantages.

I completely respect any person that works at any job......I'm truely happy as hell they are working and have a job......whatever it may be. I'm nice to any person who does any work that afffects me and I'm very respectful.....I do not tip anyone but waiters and waitresses. Think whatever you want of me.

Most everyone has hair and most people care about their hair.......people who make a living dealing with hair are very needed. They are just like every other job in the world some are tremendous at all aspects of what they do and some are cruddy. I have zero problems with people who tip for many things...it is very nice for the most part.

Actually........I'm just kidding about my hair...I get it cut every other week at Redondo Salons and it costs me $45 dollars and I always give her a $60 bill and have her keep it. I also scored a 34 on my ACT, bowled a 300 game, had a 91 mph fastball in school, shot a 65 on 18 holes, live in a house with 6 bathrooms and 3 kitchens, drive a new porsche, am 6'9, have size 19 shoes and I typically piss about 27 feet 3 1/4 inches.....uphill.
