Like the poster above said, they must win this game. If Slovenia wins the US is pretty much out.

The USA needs to win this game. England was a big game, but even with a loss we still were in control as the second best team. This is the biggest game of the group stages for us (going in, obviously changes if we lose or draw).

W/ a U.S. draw vs Slovenia:

England 4pts.
Slovenia 4pts.
U.S. 2pts
Algeria 0pts

We would be in deep shat if we don't WIN this game.

Our opponent must not be terribly well known because I decided to try and watch the Slovenia game the other day and the announcer called them Sylvania about five times in a row, much to the chagrin of his partner in the booth. It would seem to me that the United States ought to be able to beat a team who the announcer didn't even know what to call. Or as one previous poster pointed out..."Slovenia isn't even a real country, we've got this.." I must confess to you that although I tried to be a student of the game, and tried to learn something about soccer and be a better educated World Cup fan, I couldn't get more than six or seven minutes into the game before I simply had to do something else. It's just too boring!!!!!!!!! I hope the US wins, but I just can't stand the suspense so I will find out the result in the paper.

I did find out just now that Slovenia, after what would have seemed to me to be half a century, recorded a 1-0 victory over Algeria. If Slovenia, (or Sylvania, depending on which announcer you were listening to more often) beats us, we are pretty much done. Slovenia can't have more than a couple million people in the entire country. We have more people than that on two streets in New York City. We probably even have more Slovenians than reside in the entire country of Slovenia. Is there some reason that after all the years we have been trying to establish ourselves in world soccer, we can't dispose of Slovenia a little more easily. It appears that even the rabid American fans who have posted are sounding pessimistic about our chances.

Pretty much how I feel about soccer. Any game not involving the US will get little to none of my attention because my interest is just not there.

That said, the US basically must win on Friday or we pretty much have no chance to get out. A draw does us really no good and would force us to beat Algeria and we don't want it to come to that. Have to play better and not leave Howard out to dry multiple times like they did yesterday.

I disagree. In the case of a draw, Slovenia would be left to play England and we would get Algeria. I see that as three points for us and zero points for Slovenia. Of course a win would be great and is expected, but a draw isn't horrible.

lol at a draw "basically" eliminating us. We draw with Slovenia then we need to beat Algeria by 2. Not terribly to much to ask. That said, it isnt too much to ask for us to beat Slovenia either.

The scenario above would put us at 5 points and Algeria at 0 (assuming England beats them). It would mean Slovenia and England would have 4 points going into their match so the outcome wouldnt even matter. Either team wins and we go as the second place team. They draw we advance over Slovenia on goal differential.

Yeah, not a very entertaining match.

I'm honestly not worried. The US is better than both remaning teams in the group stage. I say keep the same lineup, maybe throw in Torres or Buddle/Gomez alongside Jozy.

Id put in Spector one of the next two games just because Cherundelo has the yellow card. Id try to protect him in the case we advance. He is playing the position, that, imo gets the most cards based on the nature of the game and how play transpires for the LB and RB positions.

But I agree with everything else. I would like to see Buddle with Jozy from the start and not off the bench. I think Gomez is the better option off the bench.

1-0 U.S. wins it.

I feel good about advancing now. I was actually more worried about Algeria than Slovenia (I thought we would have 4 pts and they would have 1 heading into the final match and we would blow it and lose to them somehow).

Of course, they could still get that point against England, but I don't really see that happening.

US too much speed at the front for the Slovenians. I think they cruise in this one 3-1.

I have the US winning this one 2-0.

I think they tighten up the defense against a Slovenia team that is no where near the level of England in terms of striking ability.

US should dominate all facets of this game. Prove we belong here.

Trying to get outta work to watch this..if not, I'll have to get the gamecast up during work which would suck donkey dick.

Hoping for a US win obvii...a draw, however, would essentially put us in the round of 16 assuming we and England can beat terrible Algeria.

S&L if you can have gamecast up, just bring up ESPN3.com. They are streaming all the WC games.
