I don't need to explain why ND has been forced to pick a conference, its pretty self explanatory.

Is it because Nebraska moved to the Big Ten or Boise St went to the Mountain West? Other than Colorado going to PAC 10, nothing else is official and there is not the monumental change needed to get ND to give up its independent status.

Yeah, because the B12 is suddenly going to stay together?

The moves are not official, but they WILL happen. The landscape of college football has changed and no longer can ND have an independent status.

I'm not debating whether college football has changed. If the 4 schools in the title of this thread and one more Big XII team go to the PAC 10 and the remaining schools want to keep the league together by raping the MWC to get to 10, I don't think anyone can say for sure that the Big Ten, SEC, ACC, and Big East are going to do anything drastic. There is way too much crap floating around about different scenarios for anyone on this message board to be able to say with certainty what college football will look like in 2011 and beyond.

As I'm typing this I see on ESPN's bottom line that the remaining teams from the BIG XII are discussing keeping the league together if Oklahoma and Texas leave.

I think ND is going to start considering joining the Big Ten. I don't know if they'll do it, but the way things are playing out (and if many of the moves that are said to happen, do happen), I think ND will have to join a conference because with conferences getting so big, teams are not going to schedule independents as much, they will have to play more conference games. This in turn forces ND to join a conference. They have long standing rivalries with most of the Big Ten teams (not to mention location), so I think they'd join the Big Ten.

The Big Ten has wanted ND for awhile and I think all of this re-aligning may help finally land ND.

I for one would feel terrible for Gary Pinkel is Missouri got screwed. He's a friend of a friend and have heard numerous times how great of a guy he is.

Also, I think Notre Dame is going to join the Big Ten. They just canceled their 2013 date with Army, many people are pointing to that as a sign; I suppose I can agree with that.

I think this is the first time in which the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of joining the Big Ten. As long as Notre Dame gets a guarantee that their games will always be on the BTN if they aren't on ABC/ESPN/etc., they get to play Purdue, Michigan, and Michigan State every year and they have room to schedule Navy and Southern Cal.....I think they're in. They can let rivalries with Stanford, Boston College, and others go on hold and play them every couple of years in a series. Much like with Miami, Georgia Tech, and Penn State have done with Notre Dame as of late.

I can't believe how these other schools are willing to just stand there and let Texas take all of the money just to they can stay associated with Texas (if they in fact do stick it out in the neither big nor 12).

Can TTU, OSU, and OU afford for Texas to fleece them all in order to keep the Big 10/12 together?

I think you have it right on. If Texas comes out and announces after their board meeting tomorrow that they are staying the in the Big XII what they will really mean is that they just aren't leaving the Big XII yet. Once one more team chooses to not be bullied by Texas and split (Texas A&M is the most likely candidate) then the conference will officially implode and will leave at that point. Like you said, it's possible that the rest of those teams still decide to leave for the Pac-10 anyway.

I think Texas just doesn't want to be the bad guy that officially sinks the conference. They want to play it off like they were the victim who was forced out, when really this is a problem of their own making. Maybe they are trying to play it this way for their fan base, maybe for the Texas politicians, maybe to make themselves feel better about leaving the Big XII. I don't know. But I do know that no matter what they announce tomorrow they will announce their departure from the conference before the first football game.

Pac-10 doesn't want anything to do with Baylor. If these 4 schools move over and TAMU goes SEC, the Pac-10 will most likely try to lure Utah first (the original, modest Pac-10 expansion proposal was Colorado and Utah).

Baylor is like the absolute last resort.

Correct. It's rumored that if A&M doesn't move to the Pac-10 that Utah would be their first choice and Kansas would be their second pick. It's possible that Baylor would be third choice, but I doubt it. It would never get to them anyway. I can't see Utah passing up this opportunity and I know that Kansas wouldn't pass it up. I think Baylor is ultimately destined for the Mountain West.

BREAKING NEWS!

ESPN just reported on SportsCenter that, according to Pac-10 commissioner, Texas has officially declined an invite from the Pac-10.

To be honest, I'm not sure why they would have made this decision right now unless there was some sort of deadline on them. They had Joe Schad on and he said that the main reasons for Texas declining the invitation was because of the Longhorn Sports Network, which they wouldn't be able to start in any other conference, and because they believe that the Big XII will be able to get them about $17 million a year in TV revenue during the next round of TV contract negotiations which would bring them close to the Big Ten and SEC (the Big Ten currently pays out around $23 million per team).

I think that Texas just may not want to go to the Pac-10 and I still think that Texas A&M will end up in the SEC and that some other Big XII teams may jump ship, forcing Texas to do the same.
