What are everyone's thoughts? It could be a very exciting season. Manchester stormed through the league last year and should be decent again this year, and as always. CVCA is building a solid program and will build on last year's youth, as well as Tusky Valley and Indian Valley, who were both young. Tuslaw's program has been pretty good the last few years, but I don't know who they have returning. Triway has had a few nice seasons and returns a number of good core players but lost some big-time players, as well.

I'll say Manchester, Triway, or CVCA are the dark horses at this point. All three made the play offs last year and have built solid programs. With that being said I think TV will make some noise in the PAC this season. They lost some close games last year, and had an impressive JV team.

As a very, very, very early reminder: I will be conducting a PAC-7 pick'em contest, as usual. In the past I've had a separate contest for JJHuddle and Yappi. I may drop JJ and just do one for Yappi and Ohio Chatter. Or what might be even cooler is to run one contest and combine all the sites! But then someone could potentially have 3 entries. Should I allow that? Input? Hmm...

I have accounts all three places listed but rarely go to those other sites. So either way I will get in.
I thought you got booted from JJ.

I'm fine. Different owners of JJ, now, that don't have a grudge against me. I'd think about asking to have my original name restored, but I'm not THAT brave, yet.

I want to see Waynedale in action again, and I want to see Indian Valley's team in the preseason, as well. So, I may be heading down to Gnadenhutten tonight for the 5:00 scrimmage assuming I can get out of work on time. Anyone else going?

Soo... I am at Indian Valley right now, and it is the 7th and 8th graders going at it. Wonderful. So much for the scrimmage being at 5:00. But I will tell you what... this 8th grader for IV (#13) is an absolute stud! Making every tackle at LB and scored both times he's touched the ball at tailback on two 40-yard runs, through and around people. Haha!
The kid just pursued a Waynedale RB, got to him before the line of scrimmage, grabbed his arm, and laid him softly down to the grass like a carton of eggs so he didn't hurt the runner. Haha.
I am now hearing Freshman are next, then varsity. Ugh!

I stayed for two 12-minute quarters of the Waynedale/Indian Valley scrimmage tonight down in Gnadenhutten (or a little short of it). IV started off pretty well with a 12+ play drive to start the game that took 6 minutes of the clock, but it ended with a fumble deep in Waynedale territory (after getting a first and goal taken away by a holding penalty). After that drive, Waynedale's defense shut down IV for the most part. I think every single 1st and 2nd down for IV was a running play, and they only passed in obvious passing situations. #30 is a horse for them, and their FB wasn't bad, either. They will try to ride those two all year. Their QB tried a few flag patterns and streaks to a quick WR #7 but didn't connect on any that I saw. Even with IV's running game so prevalent, Waynedale shut it down. In the first drive, it was run, run (both stuffed), then pass for first down. Run, run (both stuffed), then pass for first down. They had maybe 2 or 3 nice runs on the night. Otherwise, they weren't that great, IMO... but definitely an improvement from last year.
Indian Valley's defense was pretty small, in my opinion. They made up for it with a little quickness to start off, but after a while Waynedale wore them down with their 3-4 running back committee with the option, dive, and such out of the no-huddle shotgun. Waynedale looks like they're really going to try to hurry up the game this year, as both scrimmages they've been working on it. #10 and #2 were fun to watch running the ball, as were #25 and another person who pitched in.
It was fun to get out and see some football. We will see both these teams later in the season, but good luck to both of them!

Triway officially has 37 on the roster, Sophomore through Senior. What are other teams' numbers looking like?
Not much talk at all for our league. Thoughts so far?
The Tuslaw/Tusky Valley game is the PAC-7 game of the week in my pick'em contest. Both teams are gritty have explosiveness and potential on both sides of the ball. The game being at Tuslaw gives the Mustangs an advantage, but it should be a good one.
Triway and CVCA should be a good one. After playing two pass-happy teams the last two weeks, now it's time for a running team to come to town. I have full confidence in our coaching staff to devise a plan and our kids to execute. They've done a great job so far, and I hope they can keep it up!

Hmm. I was putting together this week's pick'em, and I noticed there are some pretty good/interesting match-ups this week.
CVCA (3-3, DIV:R13) @ Tusky Valley (4-2, DIV:R13)
Tusky has shown signs of being a good, tough team, but they have shown some very low lows, as well, with a slim win over Fairless and this past week's loss to Timken. CVCA has seem similar highs and lows, but I think they've been more consistent.
Indian Valley (2-4, DIV:R13) @ Fairless (1-5, DIII:R11)
With Tusky Valley losing to Timken, I think this takes Fairless' stock down a little after my initial evaluation of them after their slim loss to Tusky. IV's running game can take a toll on teams with a weak defensive line, and this might be another one of those match-ups.
Tuslaw (2-4, DIV:R13) @ Timken (2-4, DII:R7)
Oh boy. Who would have guessed that Tuslaw and Timken would have the same record going into week 7? Timken may have big play ability, but so does Tuslaw. With the major size advantage that Tuslaw has on the O- and D-lines, will they try to run it more? We'll see if Tuslaw can bounce back... but scoring 20 points on Manchester, no matter WHEN they were scored, is something they can use as a confidence builder.
Triway (5-1, DIV:R14) @ Manchester (6-0, DIV:R13)
This is the game of the week in the PAC-7, obviously. Last year Triway played Manchester tough in the first half but got eaten alive in the 2nd half. If they can play consistently throughout the game, they have a chance to give the Panthers their first loss. But Manchester is undefeated for a reason and has beaten some TOUGH teams. This could be a great game!
