Long term I think if they didn't join NOW, they'd be kicking themselves. As a fan of the Big 10, these two would be my first choices, any and all others would basically be irrelevant.
And, maax, you bring up something about the BXII sitting on their hands...interestingly enough, you have the Big 10 courting Texas, Mizzou, Nebraska...but not in the least Kansas, who would add a lot basketball wise. This only illustrates that the Big 10 is only interested in money, football and academics (probably in that order)
This has been mentioned, time and time and time again, but one more time shouldn't hurt.
Texas doesn't like to share. They could make more money doing what they were planning on doing in the Big 12...which is starting their Longhorn Sports Network. That's why they wanted the Big 12 to survive and Nebraska to not leave. They're big enough to go independent and make more money with their own network. They could also go to the Pac-10 who, apparently, was willing to give them a large cut from a potential new network AND still let them bank off their own LSN. The big 10, from what I've read, was not willing to do that. In the Big 10 you're cut in equal. Texas doesn't want to be equal to anyone. Which is the reason I'm amazed so many people want them in. They are a cancer to any league they join. (see: SWC then Big 12)
