Thank you to those of you who majored in degrees that make you virtually unemployable so you have to get the equivalent of summer jobs for those of us still in college.

It really makes it easy for the rest of us to get jobs.

That is all.

You mean there aren't a ton of job openings for an Art History major who graduated two years ago? I never would have guessed.

A girl in my family graduated four years ago from a small private college with a degree in French Literature she is taking one of your jobs to this day. Who the fuck majors in French Literature?

I don't know who majors in French Literature, but I am fairly certain the world could survive without them.

My girlfriend graduated from Kent State last year with a Bachelor's in Sport Administration and still cannot get close to finding a job. Monster, CareerBuilder, and all the other online sites are absolutely NO help for someone with that major or those interests.

Her ideal job is to work with children, developing programs to keep them active and help reduce the epidemic of childhood obesity. I immediately thought of a YMCA-type role, but most those jobs are volunteer-only, or temporary positions. However, she would work with almost any entry-level job from sport marketing to public relations to facility management, etc. She has had job experience working with Kent State baseball and football programs for game day operations, as well as an intership at a prison developing physical activity programs. She's great with kids and works currently as a nanny for a few families until she can find a full-time job in her field. So, if anyone in the area of the Cleveland-Canton-Mansfield triangle (or wider) knows of any job openings in this or any related field, please let me know. Thanks!

There's only a select number of Equipment Manager roles to be filled.

I almost majored in sports management so I can see the intrigue. What environment is she looking to work in?

I wish her advisors in high school and college were as helpful as yours. She never once got any ounce of advice from any of her advisors, even after persistently seeking it.

I honestly don't know why colleges offer some of the majors they do?

But then again, there are law school grads who can't find jobs, so it's not just the theatre majors looking.

Because colleges were never intended to be merely trade schools?

I considered going this route, but then decided I would rather have trouble finding a job than kill myself before age 30.

you don't have to be an accountant if you major in accounting...in business I'd say it's the most versatile major you can have (from an undergrad pov)

or you could have built a good relationship with your previous employer (if you have one) so that you have a secured position to come back to every summer, like me.

That sounds good, and is what I did, but there are definitely not as many jobs as you think. I luckily got into a Big 4 after interviewing with a ton of firms. The market is terrible now, and if you have no internship experience you are SOL. I knew a few from my Masters of Accountancy class that had no job offers, with a high gpa, and most of the CPA test sat for, The jobs just aren't as abundant right now, especially if you aren't willing to relocate.

And I also can't really stand people that major in something stupid, but as long as they don't complain about the massive debt they are compiling and no job opportunities then so be it.

My g/f majored in "something stupid" in Russian and Eastern European Studies, but went into AmeriCorps, volunteered for a couple years, and now has a $40k/year job working at a non-profit consulting firm. It's all about taking opportunities, regardless of your degree.

Yeah icl is right I graduated in 2008 with an accounting degree and couldnt really find anything although my GPA wasnt anything special(3.0)... I finally found something in March though. I agree I always laugh at people that major in something stupid... or those people who go to college and by there junior year still don't know what they want to do so they major in something even tho they wont ever use the degree.
