500% faster...but the big deal is like double the battery life, because 90% of the time your battery is running about 2.5 times faster than mine.Glory Days;381395 wrote:yeah, i like to keep my phone stock. i dont get all excited over a few fractions of a second faster speed.
Look, it doesn't get easier than this (I edited to add this to the top of my previous post):
Froyo for unrooted users:

my battery life last 24 hours with about 2-3 hours talking and 3 hours of using my music player and screen at 75% brightness. and it doesnt matter how easy it is, that isnt the point. my phone runs smooth and has 0 issues in 6 months so far. making something that is already fast, faster, doesnt do anything for me. if an app loads a few milliseconds slower and a webpage opens a second or two slower, it doesnt bother me, i am not in a race.

Well, good for you. The speed matters tremendously to people who want to push the phone to its full capabilities.
The thing is designed to be simple and run great if you so choose. But the capability for true power users is also what distinguishes it from the competition. Speed will also make a big difference with flash videos and games. You wait a week after these roms get polished, and there are no issues with them, either. The only rational reason not to root is you don't need the horsepower and all the little goodies, but with each new version it's harder and harder to justify staying stock.
And I was getting force closes with some different home screens and the stock OS. Switched to some different custom roms and force closes went away. They are flat out better and ahead of the curve. If you've had 0 issues with your phone you are a rather rare exception.

I seriously feel bad for anyone who has purchased an Incredible.
Seriously.
And if someone buys the new iPhone...they are dumb, too.
What an amazing day today has been!

I'm not hating...and I think the Incredible is an amazing phone. But it will not stack up to what is coming.

No doubt. Honestly, by the end of the year, the Incredible and possibly the EVO will be completely outclassed. That is how all technology goes...
I am curious to see if this 4g stuff is really worth the price. 3g with the Incredible is very quick and I don't know that I need anything that 4g has to offer.

4G networks are not very built out. I forget all the details, not sure if it defaults to 3G or edge when you are out of range. VZW's 4G is even less built out than Sprint. Realistically probably 2 years away from decent coverage, and I'm guessing the 1st gen phones will be a little buggy switching betweens networks like that.
Haven't looked at the Incredible in-depth, but from what I can see is it's a very slightly better Droid without a keyboard. I've never liked the physical keyboards on phones which is why I've done very little texting and email. But I found the soft keyboard is pretty quick and easy to use, and now that I'm using Swype it's an actual viable alternative for me to just reading and then using my computer to respond.
My main complaint about the Droid now is easily the 256mg ram. There are already hacks to move apps to the SD card (not sure what that really helps as far as ram) which I think will be included with Froyo. What I'm strongly considering is the Droidswap that uses some of your sd card like virtual ram, but again not sure how much that will help (some, maybe not my issues) and it's a pretty big leap to repartition your SD card. Doesn't seem difficult, just might make life a bit harder if you ever want to go back to stock.
Obviously, Motorola did that intentionally knowing after about a year most would be maxing out their Droid's ram and have little choice but to upgrade. But that will probably be a no-brainer for a faster 32-gig SD card, more ram, and the other bells and whistles.

I had a Droid but exchanged it for an Incredible b/c I just couldn't get used to the slide out keyboard. I had the Droid rooted, played around with it for a bit, and all around it is a very nice phone. Saying that, Sherm, have you seen any of the new Moto phones that have been showing its face around the Internet? It looks like it might be something special.

Its a Blackberry Tour. With a trackpad. And wifi.
Literally.
Seriously, while Apple and HTC and Google and Motorola and hell, even Samsung are on the cutting edge, RIM continues to release boring Blackberries and is about to be passed in market share if they don't do something soon.
The only leg up on the competition seems to be that it already has a large and somewhat loyal market share. But I'll tell you what, the EVO launch, I saw more people switching from Blackberries than from any other device.
Blackberry and RIM in about 2-3 years will be in the same boat that Palm is in now. Having lagged behind for years in innovation, they will join the party too late. PalmOS was a great OS with a loyal following, but its capabilities were absolutely nothing compared to iPhone, Android, etc. Blackberry OS is seriously outdated, and while they continue to update it, it really needs to be completely overhauled.
I'm not saying Blackberry is going to go bankrupt or anything, they have too much penetration in the business world. But their consumer sales are what has made them hugely successful and they will continue to lose average consumers unless they update that OS and their device types.

The only reason I need to get a blackberry is because my work makes us have one if we want work email because of the email server they have (enterprise?). BB certainly does seem to be way behind in the innovation part. However, I have no BB now and looking for my first one, so it looks like the Bold will probably have to be it.

The bold has a track pad nota track ball. I'm sure you meant to say pad but I just figured I would point that out.
Blackberry os six looks pretty cool though.

Blackberry's don't always get the best reception, and the features just aren't as good as other smartphones. Reception has hurt IPhone as well (ok, it's mostly the carrier, but smartphones aren't the best for voice at this point, usually).
No one is really close to them for integrated Corp email, though, which is why they are able to hang on. It's not a very defensible position since email isn't impossible to do, although that is where Microsoft is probably desperately protecting it's turf to make life difficult for Apple and Google. Some companies are switching to IPhones and Droids, though nothing close to significant at this point. If and when they catch-up on email, I'd expect wholesale changes because people ultimately don't want to carry multiple phones

Seen they announced that the 2.2 update for the Droid will finally start rolling out the first week of August. 'Bout damn time! The 2.2 update will let you make voice calls over bluetooth, store apps on external memory cards (love that), memory and performance optimizations, support for Chrome's V8 Javascript engine, Flash 10.1, updated Market interface, USB tethering and Wi-Fi hot spot functionality, new Microsoft Exchange features, improved app launcher, and the option to disable data access remotely.

I just traded my Blackberry in for the Droid Ally by LG and I LOVE IT...already.
Will this Froyo thing be coming out for the Ally?
What is it exactly anyways?

I got my Incredible two weeks ago and love it. Our workplace recently started allowing mail/calendar file syncs with iPhones. The Incredible is coming in a few more months. I cannot wait, since all my calendar events are on my work mail file, and I really want to sync it!

I've been a loyal Apple/iPhone guy for sometime now, finally ending my contract for my 3G and already bought the incredible. After having it for 2 weeks it is hands down better than my 3G, granted it is 2 years old, but just for basic customization it blows it out of the water.
Is this froyo the equivalent of cydia?
