Man it seems like this place has died ever since the switch to the new software. A post of mine since 11 AM is still near the top of the page.
Hopefully Leake has a nice outing, the Reds cannot lose this series. I know the Nationals have had a surprising start, but let's call a spade a spade.

Reds take advantage of the shady Nats defense on the first two hitters and Votto takes advantage of it with an RBI double, but after that he died there after being on 2B with one out as Rolen and Gomes pop up. Leake has a small lead to protect that is better than he has had a couple of starts, but about the same as he has had before and protected well and not gotten the win.

Hernandez makes a perfect throw to gun down Bernadina on a steal attempt with none out in the 2nd which allows Leake to get thru 2 with no runs allowed in spite of giving up 4 hits in two innings.

Adam Dunn adds to his 2010 two out and runners in scoring position futility, now 0/23, by taking a called 3rd strike from Leak to end the 3rd to preserve the lead for the Reds and Leake.

Reds squander another opportunity in the 4th after Rolen leads of with a double off the LF wall as Gomes lines out on a good catch by Morgan in CF, then Bruce takes 3 called strikes, and Stubbs takes a called 3rd strike to end the threat.

A no out 4-6-3 DP gives Leake an easy 4th, now with 59 pitches.

Leake gets his 10th hit of the season(.435 avg), his 2nd of the night, and slides for the 2nd time(was out on a close force out at 2nd in the 3rd) of the night into home for his 3rd run scored of the season to give the Reds and himself a two run lead. He equalled a feat of another Reds pitcher, Aaron Harang, of scoring from 1B and wasn't nearly as "spent" as Harang was, and he didn't even slide when he should have!

Leake thru 5 innings with a 1,2,3 inning on 8 pitches with the key AB being the first when on a 2-0 count Nieves beat the sinker in the ground to SS.

Nats are pounding Reds lefties in. Working on Votto, has worked on Bruce. Right handers are getting the job done (Cabrera, Rolen, Leake, Gomes)

Atilano has struck out 5 in six innings getting his season total up to 21 in 50 innings, with the fifth one costing Gomes a caught stealing as Bruce swung at ball four on the 14th pitch of his AB.

A HBP(Leake's first of his career) and a very bad error by Votto combine to give the Nats a run and prevent Leake from having a shutout thru six innings on 88 pitches. But Leake retains his poise and gets the next hitter, Desmond, to beat it into the ground for the 3rd out.

Nats finally handle Leake at the plate as he grounds out, batting for himself. Hee's going out to the mound in the 7th with 90 pitches under his belt. If the Reds are pondering putting a pitching limit on Leake for the season, I hope they do it on pitches thrown rather than innings pitched.

Cabrera misses a HR to LCF by about a foot leading off the 8th. That would be a big run to get in - it looks like Dusty is going to leave Leake in to at least start the 8th - he has 101 pitches after an easy 7th.

Phillips with a big RBI hit back up the middle for a 3-1 lead. Still no outs, and a lefty coming in to face Votto.

Now Phillips on 3rd with no one out on a WP and obstruction by the SS, that's the 2nd obstruction call I've seen today, the other in the College Softball World Series.

That is a terrible scoring decision to be an error on the catcher when BP jars the ball loose on the tag play at home on Rolen's grounder to make it 4-1. That should be a FC and an RBI. Do they call errors on the SS or 2B on a stolen base attempt that is that close?

Will the Reds send Leake out for the 8th, bring in Rhodes, or bring in a lower tier reliever? My vote, which is of no value, is a lower tier reliever.

Will Cordero have a nearly duplicate performance tonight as he had two Saturday nights ago in Cleveland when he nearly blew a game in whioch he wasn't in a save situation, or when he blew the save in Atlanta depriving Leake of a deserved win?

Phillips got bailed out by Desmond on that one. He got greedy.
I'm not one to mock baseball's unwritten rules, but I can't believe Washington was butt-hurt about what BP did after he scored. He got up and pounded his chest once. I've seen much worse.
Oh, and I love Adam Dunn, but he killed the Nats tonight. 0-23 with guys in scoring position is an unbelievable stat.

The Reds bounced back nicely after the loss yesterday and are only 1 back of the Cardinals. They are still getting very nice pitching and they are continuing to get some timely hits. I really think this club may be in the race for the long haul this season.
