I don't have any plans for the summer and am looking for some places to go. If I can't find a few small trips that interest me, I will probably end up going on another cruise.

Anyone have suggestions on cool trips to make in/around Ohio? I like the weekend trips to places like Chicago and Niagara Falls, any other places within about 6 hours that are worth enjoying this summer?

It's slightly out of that range but Philadelphia is always fun.

If you like camping check out someplace like Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky or Dolly Sods National Forrest in the Monongahela National Wilderness in West Virginia. In fact, any national park withing driving distance would be a good time. Obviously anything on the north coast of Ohio is fun (Cedar Point, Indian's game, Put-in-Bay). As you've mentioned Chicago is a great city and there's plenty to do and see every time you go.

In Ohio you're also not too far from Windsor, ON, or Branson, MO.

Depending on what part of Ohio you're in, Memphis isn't that far of a drive and is a very fun city to visit if you've never been (Graceland, Beale St., Sun Studio, Civil Rights Museum, etc.)

It's probably a hike, but I visited a client in Traverse City, Michigan, and I thought it was absolutely gorgeous: quaint town on the lake with great restaurants, vineyards, pubs, etc.

Niagara Falls is a lot of fun. Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, gambling. It's good for a weekend.

Have you ever eaten at Serafini's in Presque Isle? Fabulous Italian cuisine. Used to stay at the motel across the street from the Elephant Bar (if it's even still there), the El Patio. Love PI!

Don't forget you need a passport if you go into Canada.

If you leave out the gambling you can do everything from the USA side, the Maid of the Mist is actually better from the U.S. side because the lines are shorter for the same damn tour

There is a little Italy in the American town of Niagara falls that is superb for food.

weekend at deer creek, maybe not the best idea, but fun time drinking and jet skiing, and it isn't too far from home.

If you go to Niagara Falls, just go on up to Toronto. The city is beautiful.

Ironically enough, one of those time share companies called me yesterday (affiliated with the Hilton) and I ended up booking a 4 day/3 night in Orlando or 3 day/2 night stay in Vegas for $200, with the requirement of me listening to their sales pitch for 2 hours. I've never done one of these, but know someone that did one in Orlando and they said it was legit.

I'm not crazy about Orlando, but I'm thinking about a 3-4 day cruise from Cape Canaveral following a few days in Orlando.

Guess I'll be getting away from Ohio in a plane instead of a few long weekend road trips.

I highly suggest the Traverse City Michigan/Lake Charlevoix Michigan area. There is a lake in between called Torch Lake that is AMAZING. The water is the most beautiful azure blue you have ever seen. You almost feel like you are in the Carribean it's sooooo blue and clean. (It's ranked the 3rd most beautiful lake in the WORLD by National Geographic for a reason and it's right at Ohio's back door)!!!!! Only takes about 4 hours or so from the Ohio/Michigan boarder. WELL WORTH IT!!!!!

Cooperstown, NY is amazing, even just a great small town to see if you aren't into the Baseball HOF, but the HOF is awesome as well.
