Is this relatively easy to do yourself? I'm not especially mechanic, but I had the a/c worked on professionally last year and if this is something I can do myself, I'd prefer to give it a shot.

I'm not "especially mechanic" either, but I'm guessing if you had it charged last year, you shouldn't need it charged again this year. I'm pretty sure it's suppose to last longer than one year. Also, with so many environmental regulations, I'm pretty sure it has to be done by a professional, but then again I could be wrong.

I had it charged, and had a leak repaired. The car is 13 years old and a piece of shit, so I would prefer a quick fix to get me through the summer.

If you have R-134A refrigerant in it..you're good to go. If it has R12..you have to have a pro do it..correction..you're 'supposed' to have a pro do it. But no, it's not hard to do at all by yourself. Just hook everything up and watch the gauge.
