I got on my computer Friday. I couldn't do anything on my computer, it said it was downloading some virus protection program, and then virus messages showed up all over the screen. I restarted my computer and the same thing happened so I shut it off. It turned on Saturday by itself and the same messages showed up. Same thing today, except my mom was able to shut windows that the virus opened. All of a sudden, my computer worked fine. I ran my virus protection, and nothing came up.
Anybody know why or how this happened?

Without more details as to what the virus said/did we won't be able to tell you what was up.

I dont know a lot about viruses so I can tell you exaclty what it did other than it was triny to download a virus protection program, which was the virus. It open multiple windows of Firefox and would not let me close them. And little boxes popped up all over the screen saying that a virus has been detected.

It was probably one of the many "rogue anti-virus/spyware" programs that are floating out there. Now that your PC is working better just make sure you have protection in place. And please for the love of god don't use Norton or McAfee.

I have Syntamatic(sp?). The person in charge of computers in my mom's school district said that there were a bunch of viruses released this weekend that mainly attacked teachers, which could be the reason I got one.

It doesn't attack sites that teachers visit does it? If so, we're fucked.

AVG Free Edition is very good...and a word to the wise--when those "boxes" pop up as you said they did,NEVER click on the box that says "download antivirus now"--bad thing WILL happen

That is a fake virus....more like malware. Most av programs won't detect it. Get the free program called procexp and whenever the program tries to run it will show you what the exe name is so you can do a search and delete it. I don't remember what the program name is but I do remember that it hides deep in your local settings file.
