This is about Chad surprising a young boy and making his day and putting a smile on the young man's face.... I can almost guarantee that Chad will have contact with his family and if they need anything I can bet he would be willing to help. You don't like Chad's antics on the field that's fine... But I seriously doubt anyone can question his heart or compassion for his fans OR for the game of football. And that's what it is A GAME... and a lot of players actually forget that after about 2-3 years in the league and sorry Chad is more of role model than Big Ben!!
I've met him before and he's a dickhead. Him doing some charity work when the cameras are rolling doesn't change that. YES it is great what he did, YES he does it all the time with all sorts of media around. But there are plenty of other athletes who do things like this every single day without a peep from the media. And you usually hear about by word of mouth. Jay Bruce played catch with a kid in a wheelchair which was the kid's wish from the Make-A-Wish foundation. The media was present for that, but there was no one out there proclaiming how great Jay Bruce is, despite the fact that he does that all the time. I believe that Chad wants to do these things for both the attention and of course to help the people out. For that reason, I still dislike him, as do many others.
Which brings up a good question: If you're doing a really good deed, but doing it for selfish reasons, does it lessen that good deed even slightly?
P.S. The Reds visited injured troops while they were in DC to play the Nationals. I saw no front page story, no cameras, no pictures. Just a quick mention during the TV broadcast.
