Of course it's in poor taste. Being a Laker fan is in poor taste too.

There's a line. Some people aren't aware when they cross it and some don't care if they cross it. I see you as being one of the latter.

IMO there isn't a line. You either make a joke about everything or a joke about nothing. Picking and choosing is where you run into problems. I like people like Zwick because he's like me; no real censorship.

Same thing with political correctness and stereotypes. If you make a joke about everyone, then you're treating everyone equal.

Oh well. The sun came up the next day in spite of the tragedy.
He and I are fairly amicable. I've helped him with his car and some electrical problems in his house and he has given me a hand moving things around. His wife is the only one who was offended for the obvious reason that women aren't capable of differentiating jokes and insults.

And j_crazy is right. The only thing that divides a room better than a rape joke is an abortion joke.
I'd say half of the dogs in central ohio are named Brutus

Or maybe she's been raped before and didn't find the same humor in it that you did.

I'm not reaching at all. I have no idea why she thinks your humor is in bad taste, but statistically speaking it's not a stretch at all.

Regardless, they say discretion is the better part of valor for a reason. People who follow that rule are generally considered by society to have more class than people who don't.

I've also noticed in my 40 or so years that low-class people aren't aware of the fact they are being looked down on by others. Kind of like how really dumb people don't quite get that they're dumb or that others think that of them.

Ok, so I'm a dick. I'm 24 and have lived my life that way. It has yet to get me in trouble because everyone that knows me knows that I make light of every situation because there are very few things in life to make you unhappy.

I'm a dick and proud of it :)

ok.. provide these statistics that say on average girls are raped more than they're not. That's what you're implying.
A quick google search shows an estimate of anywhere from 15-18% of women suffered some sort of rape. Averages tend to say she's one of the 85% not 15%.

Of course, since I'm so dumb that I can't comprehend that I'm dumb, you can explain to me what's a higher percentage; 85 or 15?

We'd need to know her age. If she is of college age then the likelihood of her being raped goes up by 4X.

You'd also need to know her views on rape, whether a close friend or family member has been raped before, etc.

Regardless, I didn't imply anything. I said maybe she's been raped before and maybe she has. Why don't you just go over and ask her?

Not really. The problem is that Z4P's initial premise was incorrect. Most threads with flawed premises get debated pretty quick.

So you're trying to tell us that 60-72% of college girls are raped? That's ridiculous. And if she's older than that then she was in college at some point anyway. An older woman is obviously more likely to have been raped at some point in her life than a college-aged girl.

Regardless of age, the number remains at 15%. Of that 15%, 18-23 y/o are prolly 4x higher than other age ranges, but the 15% stays the same. Point being its 70% more likely that she wasn't raped. If she was, that's the chance you take. I don't make sure no one drives a Chevy before I make a joke about Chevys.

And if you're wondering.. yes I do equate being raped and owning a Chevy.

You said we need to know her age but earlier were talking about the chances she HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN raped. Zwick's 15% was also in reference to the percentage of woman who HAVE BEEN raped. Being college-aged would only affect the likelihood that she will be raped.

I don't see any wrong in Zwick's joke.

So if today you lined up 100 woman aged 80 and 100 women aged 25 there would be 15-18 in both groups who have been raped?

Even though 80% of rape victims are under 30 yrs old?

Yes. Those 90-year-old women were all 25 years old at some point. Growing older does not erase your status as a rape victim. We aren't debating at which age they were raped. Just that they were at one time raped.

Then you're taking a selective pool and percentages are skewed and worthless.

You don't represent an entire gender by selecting certain age ranges.
