I recently had a second interview for a government job and felt like I did pretty well. I was talking to someone at the gym today and they said that if you get a second interview with the government you pretty much have the job. It would be nice to think that but I'm not going to let myself get overconfident.

With that said, anyone here have a government job or experience with the interview process they can tell me more about?

When I worked for DFAS I was offered the job less than 24 business hours after interviewing. I interviewed Friday morning at 10am and I had a job offer in my email Monday morning at 8am.

depends on the type of government job. with my dealings with government jobs, you dont have the job until the minute you start working on your first day.

I have a gov't job, but they don't do 2nd interviews here. I never really interviewed. I started as a temp and was rolled over into full-time contingent on getting my degree. So basically, I'm of no help!

State gov't? Local gov't? Fed gov't? What agency? What type of job? Internship? Cabinet-level? Something in-between?

It's going to be all over the map, depending on your unique circumstances.

i think it all depends on the job and agency...

i know i got my internship pretty much the day after interviewing, but other people in the office went through a 3-4 month hiring process.
