No shit. Even without him they are probably a very low seeded playoff team in 2010-2011. Purge Jamison's contract the following year and Gilbert can restart the rebuild very quickly. Championship caliber team? No, but a likely playoff team.krazie45 wrote:Even if LeBron goes the Cavs won't be leaving Cleveland. No LeBron.....soon no Cavs. Pistons will rebound. Cavs? Gilbert losses way too much. Who would buy that franchise?hoops23 wrote: Detroit is pretty fucked up right now.
But you know what major city is really turning into a dump? Chicago. The unemployment rates and the crime rates are skyrocketing.
Cleveland isn't that bad. I love it at least. And how the hell are Detroit sports teams on the upswing while Cleveland teams aren't? You're an idiot.

I ask all of you who say Detroit is so bad, how many have actually been there more than once? Downtown near the casinos, stadiums, theatres, and restaurants is completely fine. Never once had a problem, nor felt threatened in any way shape or form. And comparing Detroit sports to Cleveland's is laughable. 3 league championships (2 NHL, 1 NBA) and 6 conference/league championships (3 NHL, 2 NBA, 1 MLB) over the last ten years blows Cleveland away. Economy basically hammered the city and forced people to leave, same with a bunch of cities.
Chicago is a miserable city and I was scared walking around at night there. Would be hard to get me to go back there.

I've been there. The argument is legit.

I remember reading a list of the 25 worst neighborhoods in the country. 5 of the 25 were in Chicago and the worst was also in Chicago. No other city even came close to this.
They had to have the National Guard patrol the streets, for Christ's sake!

I think the surrounding area around Detroit is where the problem is (As opposed to the Stadium/Casino areas you discussed)
My wife is from Downriver and is terrified of Detroit, but I personally don't see it. We went to a semi-pro game over the weekend that was in Dearborn (more Detroit if you ask me). It was right off the corner of Ford Rd and Southfield FWY (39). That area was TERRIBLE!
However, it was on the outskirts of Detroit.
8 Mile always gets a bad rap. I always asked my wife to drive down there, and she screams NO. I finally drove down there with my B-I-L and didn't think it was that bad.

I saw a cardboard sign in Detroit that said "Dis Way to Da Innerstate."
Yeah, I turned around.
Yeah, I turned around.

for crime, Richmond, Va. - I was there and on the news they talked about all the EXTRA police at the first day of a new high school opening a new school year. The students were a merger of schools that had rival gangs.
in contrast, I was in Alabama and the news story was high school kids raising $10,000 for medical bills of a favorite teacher ill with cancer.
