Italy's attack mustered nothing all game. It's amazing that NZs goaltender was that good and in the box NZ shut them down (from the second half I saw).

Hoping for a miracle and for Ivory Coast to at least draw Brazil. Was impressed with their 0-0 draw against Portugal.

A draw for the Coast would be huge because Portugal has the advantage of playing Brazil in a game that might not matter to their advancing

Great second goal by Fabiano.

EDIT: Definitely a handball after watching the replay.

Africa is failing miserably in this tournament. Brazil is a lot better than Ivory Coast, but 3-0 is embarrassing.

I really hope Spain somehow manages to come back and win their group. Brazil - Spain deserves to be much better than a 1st knockout round match up, and the Brazilians have group G on lock.

FIFA will allocate the number of spots given to each confederation for the 2014 World Cup early next year. If the African teams continue to play this poorly, they may lose one-half or even a full spot. This is in addition to losing the sixth spot they received this time due to host South Africa (5 nations qualified + host).

Soccer needs more officials on the field. Too much BS goes unseen (or seen poorly as in the US-Slovenia match).

I'd agree with that.

Also, I loved how the commentators trashed Italy for having no integrity what with all their diving.

love world cup soccer, but--geesh-- so much flopping. Everybody wants an oscar. If they could clean up that nonsense, it would be great. but it'll never happen. too much a part of the game, especially in Europe and south America.

I generally root for Brazil because I like watching them play, but the amount of diving between them and the Ivory Coast was a joke today.

Kaka was stupid to throw an elbow in that situation, but I didn't feel like it deserved another yellow

Tomorrow should be fun. Portugal should win pretty easily, but then we get Chile vs Switzerland (could be the game of the tourney thus far) and Spain vs Honduras in what is a must win (essentially) for Spain, so they will be full throttle from the first whistle.

I've got...

Portugal 2-0
Chile and Switzerland 0-0
Spain 4-1

The Swiss haven't allowed a goal in 5 straight WC matches now. I'm not going to bet against that D until it happens.

Portugal put North Korea to the sword very early in the second half. Three goals in under 15 minutes to start this half
