"The S&P 500 is float-adjusted and doesn't use the full market basis for Microsoft.

What that means is that it doesn’t include all the shares Microsoft holds purely for strategy purposes, as opposed to those openly traded.

Microsoft took umbrage at the report, saying that based on all 8.764 billion shares outstanding, which they valued at $US30 a share, their market cap would be $US262 billion."

That's cool and all, and really I don't give a shit.. However, I find it to be somewhat ignorant of people to turn every Apple based thread into a big shitfest..

Seriously, it's pretty idiotic. Apples growth has been absurd the last few years, and their sales of computers have went up every year while a lot of manufacturers have seen declines.

I mean the whole "buy a Mac, you're part of a cult" statement is stupid. If that's the case, you're just buying a Windows based PC because it's "popular"...

However, I'm a dumbass myself for even getting involved in this pointless debate, so I'm done.

I agree that it's stupid.

People turn every PC based thread into a "Get a Mac" shitfest so...

Like the video I posted earlier says "Computers suck".

So pick the one that sucks least for your situation.

Another thing to note is that most of Apple's growth has had nothing to do with their computers. The iPod and iPhone and now iPad have been driving their revenues for a while now. Without them the company is doing okay but not fantastic.

That's not entirely true..

the computer based line has been doing very good and sales are up quite a bit for the iMacs and MacBooks..

But, Microsofts revenue isn't created by computers either, it's their software. So that point is pretty much moot to begin with.

Sales are up but are by no means the driving force behind their explosive growth. They've sold something like 150 million iPods, something like 60 million iPhones, and over a million iPads (in one month the iPads did which is impressive).

And Microsoft makes money from software because they don't make computers. :D

But I get what you mean, their Office and other enterprise software are also large parts of their company.

A lot of people forget how big Apple is and think of it as a little competitor to Microsoft, when it's really the exact opposite.

Apples make money on both the hardware AND software, where as Microsoft makes money on just Software.. HP/Sony/Dell, etc make the money from the hardware.

This is part in the reason why Apple computers are damn near flawless when running. The hardware and software are made for eachother.

As for the iPad, it's a GREAT device. I myself was skeptical about it, but once you get one in your hands and mess around with it, it completely changes your mind. It is what it is, and what it is, is a GREAT portable entertainment device.

As for me, I don't really get into the Mac vs PC argument.. It's kind of pointless really. I owned PC's up until 2007 when I bought my first MacBook (the same one I'm using now) and it runs just as good as it did when I bought it. I've upgraded my OS from 10.4 to 10.5 and upgraded both the HDD and the RAM and that's the only money I've had to put into this machine aside from software.

The whole "Buy a Mac, you're part of a cult" thing is pretty fucking stupid, but I guess I have to consider the sources of that argument.
Apple market capitalization = 232.92 Billion

Microsoft market capitalization = 261.69 Billion

Your credibility = ruined
Not sure when those figures are from, but the last time I looked was during April 22nd, which was when this article was posted as well...

http://www.news.com.au/technology/microsoft-cries-foul-as-sp-500-lists-apple-as-new-tech-frontrunner/story-e6frfro0-1225857293121
Marketwatch reports that according to the S&P, Apple is now worth $US241.5 billion ($261.3 billion), passing Microsoft's $US239.5 billion ($259.1 billion) market capitalisation for the first time.
So in short, suck a dick.
It's May 6th, and you're wrong LOL

As soon as I can get on a site like Newegg and buy a la carte and assemble a Mac, I might consider buying one. Until then, I'll stick with PC.

Just as a point for Mac vs PC, here is the most powerful Mac Pro from Apple.com.

Configuration

* Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
* 6GB (6x1GB)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB

* One 18x SuperDrive
* Apple Mouse
* Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (English) and User's Guide
* Country Kit

All this for $6,199. With a 24 inch monitor, it's over $7K. That is outrageously expensive and this isn't even the top of the line stuff you could buy with a PC. It's just a total waste.

That picture is bullshit because I have a PC and I love PBR. Especially tall boys.

But if the picture isn't bullshit, maybe that means I should buy a Mac. ;)

The problem is that one of the few things that hipsters get right is PBR and music (sometimes). So the picture is and isn't bullshit.
