This list has to include Rory Gallgher, he could really play. Ted Nugent belongs too, his politics ruffle some folks but he can flat-out play. The guitar player for Chicago Transit Authority, whose name escapes me, is also very good. There's more, I'll post them as I remember.

buckethead intrigues me. whitewash, soothsayer, final wars, and big sur moon are outstanding but some of his other stuff, like his colaborations with serj tankian and also with les claypool, are terrible

Rolling Stone Mag always had him listed as best guitar solo in a live concert. I have not seen it lately, but he still has to be up towards the top. Dude was unreal.
