I like a lot of the guys on your list. Buckethead is top ten IMO, but not #1. He can do some crazy shit, but not nearly as technically sound as Vai or Satch. He was a student of Paul Gilbert (Buckethead's real name is Brian Carrol and he was a student of Gilbert).namod65 wrote: Is that your list or did you find it somewhere? All of these lists are shit without Django Reinhardt.
Seriously, if the list doesn't include Django it isn't a list of the greatest guitarists.
By the way, the dude only had two working fingers on his fret hand.

I won't rehash all of the people who have already been mentioned but the best I have ever seen live is Leroy Powell (back when he was still with Shooter Jennings' band).

I have Knopfler in my top ten. What he did in Dire Straits and later on with Eric Clapton was amazing. His solo(s) in Sultains of Swing speaks for itself. Absolute horseshit. The solo in November Rain is an all-time great. He has a style that rhythmically moves from note to note better than most guitarists. There's a reason the new lineup of GNR needs multiple guitarists (including buckethead at one time) to be able to play some of the parts Slash plays by himself. I may be in the minority but he's in my top 5.
